Q:What things in my car could the seizing of my water pump cause? As I stated in another question, the power steering went, the red battery light came on and it over heated. The mechanic said it seized and i'm lucky the engine didn't seize. He has to look into it more. I'm just really curious as to what kind of damage i've done and the possibilities! thanks in advance.: It really depends on the car and how hot it got when it overheated. most likely you will need a new belt and of course a water-pump. Possibly you have cracked a cylinder head or warped it, this mostly occurs on aluminum cylinder heads and is unlikely if cylinder heads are iron.

Is this too small? Q:noise when i acclerate you cant hear it as much because of engine noise but when its at idle the squealing noise is somewhat loud does anyone know what it could be ? its not the water pump because i bought it new and im not overheating and the belts arent too tight either i have already checked them: first off is the noise a squeal or a whine there is a difference. If it is a squeal then it could easily be one of the belts either the alternator or the power steering. Check your belt tension and make sure the belts are tight enough not to slip around the pulleys when they are under a load. If you have power steering start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to the stop either direction and apply pressure ot the steering wheel. This will load the power steering pump and help you ot determine if its the power steering belt or the alt. belt. The belts need to be tight bt not guitar string tight. If it is a whining sound instead of a squealing sound then I would remove the belt that drives the water pump and turn the pump by hand and pay close attention ot how it feels while you turn it. It should be extremely smooth. If you feel anything like a slight bumping or something of that nature it is possible even tho its a new water pump the impeller may be to far back and may be striking something inside the housing slightly. Even new parts can be defective.

This will do two things.. lubricate your belt (belt slippage) and one larger issue, if it get blown into your alternator, say goodbye! Alternators and antifreeze do not mix.
