- Q:The water hose hooks from the radiator to the water pump. Does an o-ring go in it? What else could be causing it to leak?
- it is either a loose clamp or a bad hose
- Q:I have septic tanks. My toilet flushing water is filthy and the water pump runs for a long time and sounds strange. I have turned the pump off for now but know this is not an answer but i was worried it would burn out or something. Do i need a part for the pressure pump? Please help any plumbers out there.
- Most toilets do not have pumps, Yours probably has a fluid master acting like a float , so water can only get so high in the tank, and a flapper - a rubber piece with a chain connecting to a handle rod. Remove the tank lid, see if the flapper goes up and down with the handle( the piece you push), this rubber piece should cover the hole completely to stop the water from going down any more. If it does not go down all the way, then it is the problem. Hope this helps.
- Q:We had to have our well pump replaced yesterday, how long before the well settles down, and the water tastes like it used to?The company who replaced the pump told us when changing a pump it disturbs the well, and it would take time for everything to settle back into place. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.
- Something seems a little fishy here besides the smell of the water. 1) Replacing the pump will do nothing to keep your well from being sucked dry unless the pump was sunk lower in the well. 2) A space is left between the bottom of the pump and the bottom of the well so that you have a place for sediment to settle, anywhere from 10' to 50'. 3) If you sink the pump lower you are placing it in the sediment area and will keep sucking up sediment until its level is drawn down. 4) Water literally flows thru the well and unless your well casing was damaged or the walls below it are collapsing it would be difficult to stir up anything. Apparently what they have done is to lower the pump pipe causing the pump to sit in the available sediment area. If you run the pump enough you will eventually suck the sediment down out of the bottom of the well. However, you will have less of a sump left and you will draw more sediment out of the well from now on. The only permanent solution to your problem was to drill the well deeper. I have recent firsthand experience with this both professionally (customers wells) and personally (my own well). The water will clear up but it may take some time and quite a bit of flow but from now on you will draw more particulates out of your well. Your cheapest and best solution is to invest in a filter to go inline after your pressure tank. They run about $70 plus installation and will need the filters changed between 1 and 6 months depending on how turbid your water is. Good Luck!
- Q:ok so i have a crack in my radiator a small crack but anyways yesterday it caused my car to over heat. i normally keep coolant in the car but it just got low and over heated pretty bad. so today the car is making a really loud annoying noise. coolant is also draining out of the bottom of the engine when the car is on. at a pretty good pace. it is coming out like right under the belt area so my friend said it is probably the water pump baring and he said it could have gotten damaged when it over heated. so i think these symptoms def point to the water pump. anyways i called a mechanic and he said that he had to change the belt to and he said he had to charge me $385. what you guys think. does he need to change the pump and the belt or just the pump? and is $385 a rip off or is that the going rate? thank you all for your knowledgeand information
- Read the above PLUS realize that you MUST use ONLY genuine Toyote coolant in your car. Other coolants will cause further deterioration of your cooling components. I have seen Toyota cylinder heads that look like Swiss cheese from using the green stuff. Also, make sure that your mechanic uses only genuine Toyota replacement parts, and NOT rebuilt pump. Replace the tensioner and idler pulleys now, as well. The price is a rip off if cheaper parts are being used. If these are all factory parts, then this price is GREAT!!
- Q:I know that the water pump is belt driven, so it would be easy to connect it to my bicycle. What I am wondering is if I can pedal fast enough to make it work. Does anyone know how fast I would need to pedal to operate the pump?
- Pretty fast. Engines operate at 600-6000 rpm and the pump pulley is a little smaller than the drive pulley, so it is spinning even faster. That said, 600 rpm is plenty fast enough. You can attain that easily by applying pulley to rear tire tread, raising tire off ground and pedaling. To apply bike chain to pulley would give a disappointing water flow.
- Q:Was I supposed to lube the water pump or what. I really don't know what it could be making the noise now. But it goes away after about 5-25 seconds of running, what could it be?
- If your car is a Chrysler product it is most likely the bearings failing in the idler pulley on the belt tensioning arm. I have replaced this after failure on 2 dodge mini vans. Don't wait too long, if it fails completely the belt will be ruined and leave you stranded.
- Q:i used my water fountain pump for the first time yesterday and I've had it for 10 years and i used it yesterday it worked with the water and everything was fine!then the next day i wanted to turn it on , it went on it started vibrating but it wasn't pumpingwhen i had it on the other day the water was dirty but it was workingi cleaned it the filtershould i put vinegar to clean it ?and what else should i do!??? Help :#92;thank you!
- Debris is probably blocking the impeller ,a wheel that spins inside the pump, and moves the water through, you might have to take it in for servicing to a repair shop,if you aren't mechanically inclined to do it yourself.leaf litter,or a twig can get inside the intake port and wedge itself in the wheel, and keep it from working ,try backflushing the pump, forcing water the opposite direction through, and see if this dislodges the blockage first, then if no luck, you'll have to dismantle it to get the blockage out Make sure you handle the pump carefully.if all else fails, you could try whacking it with a hammer, and see if that jolts it free.It is pretty old now,and may be just time to get a new one,10 years is a good life span for one of these pumps.
- Q:the pump is pumping hot wtaer from the hot water tank around the domestic hot water system, i.e to taps and shower.
- Depends on the type of pump, but for your garden variety type pump, there is a impeller of some sort that is turned by the motor to pump the water. The actual shaft of the motor is not in contact with the water (except where the impeller is attached to the shaft). A common type of failure mode here is when the seals on the shaft (which keep the water contained to the impeller area) have failed and water has gotten past the shaft seal and degraded the bearings holding the shaft = seizing up.

- Q:How do I change the water pump in my 1998 ford mustang manual v6?
- If you don't already know how to do it, then take it to a shop to have it done by the professionals. If you insist on trying it yourself, buy a Chilton's manual for your car, do some online research (with pictures), and buckle down. You will need to loosen the belts, remove the belts, remove the water pump, replace it, and reinstall everything. You will need to make sure that the belt is routed the correct way, or BOOM! You might also want to replace the timing belt while you're in there. It makes sense to replace it if you already are removing it, and the timing belt is something you can't afford to have go bad on you.
