Well, it will all depend on how you do it... I have seen some good wall curtains and some pretty bad ones! But if you find a thick, heavy fabric you like, and buy a staple gun, I think you could cover that wall quite easily without having to 'drape' the fabric and with minimum damage to the wood... just stretch it like a canvas. Draped fabric on an entire wall can get really busy; plus, it will collect dust like you have never seen before.
