Q: my water pump has gone south on me and I want to repair it myself any ideas on how to will be greatly appreciated, do to space between the water pump of the engine and the chasi or body of the van that makes working on thi vehicle kind of difficult any knoledgeable instruction will be welcome. thanks for the help. I am in California, the name is Elmer
drain cooling system, remove the fan belt. Remove the lower radiator hose, Remove nut from both front motor mounts. Remove alternator. Disconnect power steering pump pressure hose. Disconnect heater outlet tube from waterpump. Remove AC compressor front bracket, leaving compressor in place. jack up left side of motor about 5 inches. Remove waterpump bolts and nuts. Remove the drive belt tensioner pulley. remove the power steering pump with the hose still attached to it. and position it off to the side. Now remove the waterpump and gasket! reinstall in reverse order. This is taken from the Mitchell Repair Software.
Q: i have a 1960 ford f100 and i was wondering if its better to have an electric water pump or mechanical. ive heard mechanical is worse because at low rpms it doesnt put as much water into the motor but i wasnt sure how true that was. What was is better so that my truck doesnt overheat? and how much better is one over the other if electric will just be a little better is it even worth using? also will i need to change anything on my motor to be able to put an electric water pump on it or will it just bolt on like the mechanical one does
Whoever told you that meeds to be slapped. Most elec water pumps do not flow enough coolant for daily street use, and they do not have along enough life span for daily use The mech. pumps are in the 50-60 gallon per min range on flow. Most elec units are in the 16 to 37 gallons per min range on flow. Yes they do have a few that moves 40-55 gpm but you will PAY for those. $536 for a 55 gpm flow elec pump for a ford.. It also draws 10 amps as while. I'm not a big ford man so I'm not sure about your alt, but on chevys of that age they only had a 37 amp unit... Drawing about 1/4 of the amps for just the water pump won't work so weill. You will need to update the charging system Most will only last about 5,000 hours awell... Some of the better ones says 10,000 hours.
Q: Where can I get a water pump housing for a 1987 Dodge Dakota, A junk yard?
Not sure what you mean by housing. Nobody is going to have just the housing. The entire Water Pump is available from Autozone, from $22 - $63 depending on type and warranty. The severe duty and new pumps are special order/available to ship. The standard reman is available in store, at my local store at least. Same pump as the 5.2L and 5.9L V8's. Can't be that hard to find. This is assuming of course, you have the 3.9L?
Q: I have a 1997 ford ranger, during last week i noticed that the temperature started to go up, i noticed that the coolant recovery tank was empty so i added coolant and it fixed the problem, but a day later i noticed that the tank was empty again since it started to overheat again. This time i let the engine cool off and checked the radiator water levels and noticed it was dry with no water, so i added water and noticed that i was leaking from what it seems the water pump (im guessing its the water pump because is behind the engine fan, behind the belts, its hard to see), Does anyone have a possible explanation or suggestion of what i should do? Thank you i would really appreciate it.
did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it your self? in case you had a mechanic do it, ask them to restoration it in case you had no issues past. must be thermostat, must be you dont have sufficient coolant in radiator or maybe suited coolant to water ratio. All i know is you ought to bleed out the radiator to do away with all air after water pump is taken off and placed back on, while you evaluate that would reason issues aswell. ok nicely you merely as much as date it, so i'm too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he ought to have bled air out of radiator, the actuality he informed you is strange, ought to have fixed it then and there. this is an significant step of adjusting water pump. If there is air in it, your radiator and water pump wont be rotating the water precise. tell him to restoration it and say you probably did your examine and you're actually not paying yet another cent!
Q: I am a business man.My Instituate name is Rockydockyard. This Institiate build up Ships, containerships etc.So we found a high pressure water pump.
The biggest concern I would have is the possible lack of lubricity with water but from the pictures on the various websites it appears to be a pump that is commonly used for pressure washers. In that case water should not be problem. If it can pump water then it should be able to pump oil also. If it is a gear pump then it will not pump water for very long before there is a problem. Typically gear pumps for water have nylon or similar type of gears. If it is a plunger pump then is the packing is lubricated or made from telfon then it will be okay. A piston type pump will need either lubrcation for water service or telfon rings and packing.
Q: 1998 BMW 328i : to replace water pump, thermostat and gaskets, brake flush, fuel system cleaning with tune up,drive belt for 90k serivce; totally how much bucks?thx a lot !
At okorder to prevent mechanics from trying to rip you on the parts.... and they might not be trying to... but their prices are higher than bav's. PS... the 90K mile service is A LOT... I have never paid anyone to do it. Look in the back of your owners manual, it tells you everything they check. I check it all myself. If you change your own oil scope things out while your under the car. It's easy to spot stuff that is wearing out. You can reset the service light yourself too. :P If you don't know anything about cars however.... don't try doing it yourself.... in other words... if you are scared of doing it, don't... if you feel confident... go for it. Also... the first time you do things it might take an hour... second time will take 30 mins... 3rd time you do something it will take 10-15 mins. Most of the projects I have done have been like that. From rebuilding the internal door mechanisms to working on the engine... that's how it's been for me. Key is to not let yourself get frustrated.
Q: water pump pulley has slight wobble in it. not seeing water yet....is bearing going bad

Q: I have an ls vtec set up on my 89 EF si, I want to install a better oil and water pump. I m thinking of going with GSR. BUt my question is are all years gsr oil, water pump the same? I think my ls Block is from 93-95 acura. which year gsr water oil pump can I use for my motor?. also I have a 2000 si head. do I have to change the timing belt? and Last question is should I use b16, gsr type r pumps? I heard gsr and type r have the same part #. Thanks
just change both to type r pumps that way there are no problems
Q: My pt crusier water pump went out. Are there any tricks to fixing it? My husband wants to take a crack at it because it is 800.00 to have it fixed by a local mechanic here in Spring Hill. If anyone knows any tricks to doing it or where I can get it done cheaper in Spring Hill?! Let me know!!!!
The water pump is driven by the timing belt on this motor. If it is not done right, you could cause serious damage to the engine. Actually $800 to change the pump and timing belt is reasonable. To lower the price further you could negotiate buying your own parts. Good luck.
Q: Hi, my mechanic said that I need a new water pump. I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan SE. What is involved with the whole changing of a water pump? He said it would cost about $400 to $500 for the whole job. Is that correct? Were is a good place to go get one? I live in Staten Island New York. Is sears a good place for that job? What is installed when they do this job? Belts or what??? I thank you for your time and any help is greatly appreciated. I will be taking my car in this week and will leave a best answer based on the correct information. Thanks again :-)
does your van have a 3.0,3.3 or 3.8 litre engine? If it is a 3.0 liter engine then the job involves removing the timing belt. Book time is 4.5 hrs. The other two engine is much simpler, only 1.0 hr to replace the water pump. So since most garages charge about $100/hr it will cost you $450 and $100 respectively. Also it would be wise to change the thermostat and flush the system at the same time. That would be an extra 1.4 hrs or $140. Note: the serpentine belt has to be removed to do this job, so if it is worn replace it. There should be no extra labor, just parts cost.
