Q:Went in for an oil change and the mechanic said my exhaust system was gonna go at some point; said it wasn t a matter if if, but rather when. He suggested I just keep driving it till it goes. I drive a 97 Subaru Outback and spent over a grand last year to replace blown head gaskets. My question is how much does an exhaust system replacement actually cost and is if worth it to have replaced? Q:What component(s) of the exhaust system are responsible for creating the back pressure. Is it the cats,mufflers,diameter of piping or is it something unseen? I‘m wanting to put some mufflers on my car ( flowmasters or thrush ) and I was told that if too much of the back pressure is relieved it would cause problems. My car is a ‘94 fleetwood with the LT1 engine by the way,: The whole exhaust system creates the back pressure . On some vehicles , it doesn't harm the car , but it might not run as good . On an LT1 engine , Flowmasters will actually help as they like to breath . By the way , check out the new redesigned Cherry Bombs .

I want to know what type of exhaust to buy and how to get it replaced.Thank you.: if you want a nice sound i say get a new header, change piping to 2.25 all the way back resonator and either magnaflow or flowmaster 60 series muffler.your choice for a cat with a cat it'll be quieter.you dont need to spend a lot of money just go to a muffler shop they'll do it for you

The rest of the system are the exhaust pipes and tailpipes to also increase exhaust flow.The two combined together will do more than just the muffler will. They make complete kits to replace the entire exhaust system because factory systems are more restricted than the replacement ones.
