  Glazed Tile CMAX-BR653

Q:Can ceramic tile be applied over my existing formica counter tops? They are in good shape, just ugly. They are not molded, but the formica is not loose anywhere and would probably be hard to remove. Anyone have any experience with this sort of project?
Yes you do get tile cement that will stick to smooth surfaces. You can all so rough the surface up with a coarse sandpaper. You do get a bonding liquid that you apply before you put the tile cement it helps with the bonding. Just make sure the counter top isn't flexible because that can cause problems All so make sure when you fill the tile joins with grout that it fills it good and make sure your grout is water resistant
Q:I have never tiled before. I have a 3 x3 ft entrance in my house. I would like to remove the old tile and re tile it. How long should this take? and can I just tile over the old tile or does it have to be removed? but mostly how long should it take me to do?
Tiling over the original tile is not a good idea. The door in your entry way will most likely hit anyway. The time involved will mostly be in the prep of the area ie taking up the old tile and thin set. After that is done mixing the new thin set and laying the new tile should go rather quickly. You then have to wait 24hrs to grout the tile. The actual tiling should only take a couple of hours and then of course the time till you can grout.
Q:We just installed laminate wood floors tiles in our open space living/kitchen room. We put ceramic tiles in the kitchen area the wood laminate in the living area. Due to time constraints we had to get the laminate installed first before the tiles. Our tiler was supposed to put something between the wood the tiles but didn‘t. He‘s not being very cooperative about completing this, so we are trying to do something ourselves. What can we put there, so that the grout stops coming apart where the tiles laminate wood meet? Thanks.
I would be reluctant to use laminate in any area that is liable to get wet -- snowy boots, washing machine leak, plugged toilet etc. Laminate flooring is very durable but it swells when it gets wet and when it swells it pops up at the joins, then chips. I have had to replace two bathroom laminate floors for just this reason. Use a good quality tile and 3 coats of sealer on the grout. When people have trouble keeping grout clean it is usually because they failed to properly seal it. If you're concerned the tile may be slippery when wet, choose a tile with a bit of texture in it. It will look more high end, give some protection against slipping when wet -- and it will last for as long as you own the home. -- Just be sure to seal the grout 3 days after completion and every couple of years thereafter.
Q:I have extra floor tiles that i had my kids paint and i want to put them together for my husband for fathers day. any ideas on how to do that?
If the tiles are 12x12 it depends on the number of tiles you had them paint. You could put them in album frames and hang like pictures; you would get a piece of 1/4 plywood cut to size at Home Depot, paint the wood, glue them down and put hangers on the back; You could get cut plastic sheets or acrylic and arrange the tiles on the sheets, let's say if you had four, you could put four square in the center with 1 1/2 inch between them and two inches around the outside (30x30) You could then get the kids to decorate the border on the plastic with paint, beads, mosaic.
Q:Can I also use thin set to grout my tiles on counter? I‘m using white glazed ceramic tiles 4x4. If not what should I use? Please help
As far as using the thin-set for the grout, that's not what it's meant for. While I have seen and heard of it being done, I don't see why you would since it just comes in the bland white/gray. They do make pre-mixed Mastic/Grout combo buckets, but again...they only come in the plain colors. You can use those if you really want to go that route, but the Thinset is a better bond. Invest in a nice modified type grout and you can get it in the right color, and have it turn out just right :D
Q:on to ceramic tile and was told by ace hardware to use acryl pro ceramic tile adhesive ive layed a few tiles but i dont think its right. need some help, is this the correct procedure?????
i suggest something on top of the ceramic tile, like plywood or particle board. why do you need tile adhesive if the tiles say self-adhesive?
Q:I‘m remodeling my house and was thinking of using porcelain tiles for my bathroom (floor only). What are the advantages/disadvantages of using porcelain instead of ceramic, et cetera?
Porcelain tiles will not break if installed correctly. Let's say, a hammer fell on the porcelained floor, this wouldn't break but would chip and that applies to all kinds of tiles.
Q:For my Science fair project i am testing different types of toothpastes and I was planning on soaking tiles in different liquids to satin them, but I don‘t know which tile would work? Any Ideas?
I suggest glass tiles of different colors (because each color is made with different ingredients) My friend made use of the glass tiles for his project and he won the science fair! Good luck!
Q:It has been installed on a concrete slab for about five months now, could the slab not have cured right or is the tile layed wrong?
It is common on a poorly made one such as yours. People who laid them for has no masters degree, thats why they make a living of laying tiles. The work should have guarantee for one year and Im sure you kept some extra tile. Now you can get them to fix it for you with no charge.
Q:I went and removed 3 ft of tiles from the side of the bath tub starting at the bottom. The tiles had the cement on it so it came off the wall exposing the wood the to the house and i saw the water damage to the wood. How do i patch up the wall? Do I use plywood and than cement it and than add the new tiles?
If I understand the problem correctly, it sounds like you have water damage inside you wall. You first need to find out what caused that damage. If you repair the wall without finding the water leak, it will happen again. If the area was dry rot and it didn't sem like there was currently water there, then it is likely safe to fix. Carefully remove tiles until you no longer see any water damage to the wood. I'm not sure what wood is there. If its plywood, replace it with a like thickness (most of the time today, they use drywall, but its a special kind that is usually green that's made for bathrooms and moist areas). Before replacing the tiles, clean them up and remove any old grout from the edges. Be careful as the tile are very brittle and break easy. There are a number of bathroom tile type caulks that can adhere the tile to the wood. I suggest going to somewhere like Lowe's or Home Depot or a similar store and ask someone in the plumbing dept or the paint dept what kind of caulk to use to attach tile to wood. Apply the tile to the wall using the caulk. Now you need to re-grout the seams. Buy grout and apply it in all the seams. Let it completely dry (read the box but most say at least 24 to 48 hrs to completely cure) then after its cured, apply grout sealer over the top of the grout seams.
