- Q:I am about to redo my bathroom, and I Absolutely hate corners. They get dirty and are hard to clean plus I think they are ugly. So as far as tile is concerned is there something like a bent tile for an inside corner such as from floor to wall which will eliminate corners. Imagine if you will a quarter pipe use by skaters. If nothing exists where could I go to get custom tiles made.
- American Olean, Summitville and I m sure there other makers make a cove tile meant to be used of flooring corners between the wall tile and floor tile. You can see them in commercial applications allot. I don t see why you cant adopt the same concept to walls. There is also a base tile used for showers called an A 3401 that you could use in the same way. There is a whole color range in in 4x4 and 6x6 tiles. These are nice but basic tiles . - Q:What is the finish height of tile after grout and tile??? For example if I were to lay tile how much would it bring up the floor?? 1half inch???
- you have to take into consideration the underlayment such as Durock Cement board. it is 1/2 or 5/8. then add 1/4 inch for the Thinset and then add the depth of your tile.
- Q:I‘m going to be putting in a tile floor in my kitchen (all cabinets and appliances removed). I have done my research and have a good idea of what I will be doing - beef up the subfloor with plywood and lots of screws for rigidity; use cement based self leveler to correct a mild slope; install backerboard or decoupling membrane (not sure which yet) followed by the tile.I have a plan, but plans tend to fall apart after their first run-in with reality. Has anyone run into types of problems they don‘t talk about on DIY network? The types of problems complete the following kinds of sentences: are you f***ing kidding me? You have to do ____ before ___? or dammit, why don‘t they tell you you need [insert name of specialized gadget] on a product that cures in 10 minutes? or boy was I an idiot for doing/not doing [insert critically important but not obvious tiling procedure here].?Much obliged, and thanks for the responses.
- Get the proper trowels for the size of tile your doing. Get the proper drill and paddle to mix the thin set Mix the grout by hand or you ll incorporate air into the grout , weakening it.. They don t always show the proper way to lay out tile. Speed squares come in handy, Use a fine tipped marker, pencil marks will come off most tile doing it through a wet saw. Rent a wet saw or if you plan on tiling again, save money in the long run and buy a medium grade saw. With a stand if possible. - Total tiles = 5 * (4/4) + 4 * (2/4) + 4 * (1/4) = (20 + 8 + 4) / 4 = 32 / 4 whole tile equivalents = 8 whole tile equivalents We can conclude that since 20 x 20 = 400 = 8 whole tile equivalents the area of one whole tile is 400/8 = 50 sq cm So we take the dimensions of the table, a * b, and divide by 50 to find out how many whole tile equivalents we'll need. How many whole, half, and quarter tiles will be needed depends on the shape of the table and the exact dimensions of both the table and the tiles. The tiles might be any of these sizes: 5 x 10 cm 4 x 12.5 cm 8 x 6.25 cm or some other numbers as long as the product is 50 sq cm.
- Q:We recently had new porcelain tile installed on our guest bath floor, and we‘d like to clean it regularly without harming the tiles and grout. The tile installer had no recommendations about this process, nor did the tile company where we made the purchase. Researching this info is very confusing. Some sites recommend using only a wet mop, while others claim that vinegar diluted in water is appropriate; others advise using some type of manufactured cleaning product. We know that regular sweeping is necessary, but we‘re unsure which products to use to protect our new floor. If you suggest a wet mop, please advise which is best: Shark, Eureka, Bissell, etc. Thanks for any detailed advice you can provide.
- I am going to assume that the grout has been sealed. If your tile installer did not seal the grout you should demand he come back and finish the job. It is a must. After the grout has been sealed, any type of cleaner that has any type of acid in it will strip out the sealer. Your tile and grout will be clean of everything including sealer. Which means you will have to do it again. So, first off I use and recommend StoneTech Professional Impregnator Pro. Some sealers sit on the surface of the grout and are apt to peel off. Impregnators actually penetrate the grout and seal it from within. Second, I use and recommend StoneTech Professional All Purpose Stone and Tile Cleaner. It operates like any other cleaner. Dilute it in warm water as per instructions and it both cleans the tile and grout and will not interfere with the sealer. To keep up with the sealing, I believe StoneTech recommends re-sealing every 3-5 years. This is purely a guideline. You'll know it's time to re-seal when, as your mopping or getting out of the shower and the floor gets wet, the grout will change color. This means that the sealer has worn out and the grout is getting wet.
- Q:in my bathroom what do i need thats easy an inexpensive? Can i do it myself.? trying to do it for my mother this weekend while she is away. Have tile thats old and seperating can i just pull it up clean the floor and lay the tile?
- If it's a bathroom floor and you want something not too expensive, i would go for some 12 x 12 ceramic tile. Just make sure it's not too smooth or shiny. It is a bathroom you wouldn't want your mother to slip. So go for some tile with a textured surface. Another important thing to consider is what kind of surface your'e laying the tile onto. If it's concrete there might not be any problems. If it's a wood surface, you better get some backer board such as hardibacker or wonderboard. Trust me. You do not want to lay tile straight to tha wood. I always ens uplifting and you get a big mess. ~Good luck!~

- Q:Anyone know how much I should expect to pay to have a professional install ceramic tile flooring? The prep work has been done. The tile is 12 x 12, there‘s about 90 sq ft of floor (concrete... sealed). I‘ve purchased the materials (tile, thinset, grout). I just want to know how much to expect to pay for labor. Is $5.00 per sq ft. too much? That‘s the quote I was given. Thanks for any help.
- Do it yourself. It's easy. You'll have to buy another $70 worth of stuff at Lowes. Plus, a $90 wet saw (if you have complicated corner cuts). But then you'll know how to do it and have the tools to do it next time. Go for it !
- Q:I have slate tile in now, but with sand underneath it. Is it possible for me to grout it into the cage? Is there a guide for this? Thanks.
- A slate tile sounds great, I never thought of that. But grout is a terrible idea! It's chemical. Animals, esp. small ones with heat mats lamps, cannot be around chemicals like that. You're not even supposed to clean their cages with a sponge because of minor chemicals-they're very sensitive. There is no guide because that's a jerry rigged solution that isn't good for animals. And anyways if you grouted the tile in, you wouldn't be able to clean the cage good enough.
- Q:I have some stick on tile that has come loose in a small hall area at some rental property. can you just lift thme up re-glue them? They are still in great shape.
- You can, but it would be best to find the same tile and replace the tile itself.
