Press fitting system joins pipe without welding or bolting. The components fit by crimping through the use of a special pressing tool. An O-ring that is inserted in the fitting ends of the pipe ensures a leak-proof connection. Press fitting system is the trend of pipeline industry. It is widely used in cold and hot water supply, heating supply, fire protection, medicinal gas, industrial petroleum pipeline system etc.

- The amount of air leaking through the fittings is probably minimal so it won't be a big deal as far as safety. It does seem silly to fire someone over that but I wasn't there.

Because it’s a school your installation may also require schedule 80 pipe, which will need to be color coded and labeled with flow direction arrows as well. It’s worth doing your homework before you start a job like you have there, because you don’t want to have to go back and re-do things later. - yes you can do this, there are Special fittings that can connect both of them together, but you have to have tread on them.

There are many home made designs on the internet and glass is a pretty safe bet. or you could always carve one from stone depending on where you live. Most woods are safe to use, you may want to research that.
