Press fitting system joins pipe without welding or bolting. The components fit by crimping through the use of a special pressing tool. The problem is that the extreme pressure would be forcing any patch away from the pipe with such force that is could not be over come until you had a GREATER force. What they are attempting to do with the TWO additional wells is to provide an alternate less restrictive (EASIER) route for that oil pressure to release with a bigger volume of flow that should hpefully allow the pressure to drop at the original well, thus allowing them to deal with repairing or capping it.
