- Q: My Toyota 2006 Sienna has 80K miles on it and I asked the dealer to inspect the vehicle. He suggested that i replace Timing Belt, Water Pump, Drive Belt and Trans Pan Gasket. The cost of the repair comes to $1300 ($460 for Timing Belt, $350 for Water Pump, $140 for Drive Belt $370 for Pan Gasket).I'm caught by surprise with the price quoted and things to be replaced. Is the price quoted reasonable? Are these replacement common for Sienna vehicle with 80K miles? I don't know what could possibly go wrong if these are not changed for couple of months. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle for 100K miles will any of the above get covered under warranty?Any suggestions or advice is highly appreciated/
- For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/awH9s Um that doesn't seem to bad to you might get it down 450 or 500 if you went to an independent shop but for a dealer 650 is not that bad plus if you ever had to do this job you would understand why it costs so much there is no part of it that doesn't sux. That's why I work on airplanes now better money and no complaints about labor cost.
- Q: Okay, I have a 1982 Suzuki Dt8 that someone gave me. But it will not pump water well, when you reve it it will have a little watter shoot out the water outlit, but heres the thing. if you take the cover off be the shift linkage and run the engin it will pump water through just fine
- I've passed on answering your question a couple times, mainly because I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. So let me ask. In the water does the engine overheat? I'm not sure that what you are looking at isn't the relief hole and not the water discharge, which should be under water. How are you supplying water to your engine? Are you running in a barrel? The water pump should be replaced every 2-3 years, so unless you are going to do it yourself, take it to a shop and explain what you are observing. Taking the cowling off will have no effect on the water pump, so I'm guessing you are looking at the wrong place. P.S. This was a common error with Evinrude small motors back in the 70's and 80's, motors similar to yours. The exhaust fin was just behind the propeller. not higher up the leg
- Q: My water pump in my pontiac bonneville 99 went bad, and while I was in the navy, in aviation fuels, some of my job consisted of repairing pumps and valves, and rebiulding them all together, and this water pump from my car seems to have some of the same features of previos pumps i've worked on, usualy when i use to repair pumps, most of the time i just replaced the bearings, just wondering if its do-able, im looking for the cheapist way to fix this, the casing for the pump seems to be in very good condition, but havent got it out of my car yet, im short on tools right now for the moment... thanks in advance for any help...
- Don't bother. Water pumps fail on this motor all the time and replacements are plentiful and cheaper than dirt. I won't even use rebuilt water pumps in my shop - we only install new ones because they are much more reliable and the cost difference is literally only a couple of bucks.

- Q: I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 v6 engine. My car has been overheating lately and my low coolant light came on so i put antifreeze in it and the light went off. I drove about 3 blocks and the low coolant light came back on again and the thermostat was at the hot mark so i checked the antifreeze and it was just about empty. I did noticed when I was pouring the antifreeze that some did run out the bottom of the car but it wasn't alot. Also I noticed that in the morning when I get up and drive my car the thermostat could be at cold but if I drive about 3 blocks it's almost at the hot mark. - use minny vice grips it slow or grind head off take rest of bolts out pull water pump an alot more bolt to grab with vice grips an turn out a little lube blaster an screw back in an walk it out like that till all the way out an get a new bolt

- your right on what it could, once i also have seen a vacuum hose and other hoses like evap hooked into coolant system boy some dude fried his face when he was stupid enough to pull the cap without backing on the evap one it exploded as he was working on it. You can rent a block tester from autozone the dye will turn green or yellow if the head is warped or the gasket is bad. Don't suck up coolant with it while the cap is off just the gasses it uses to determine. A bad water pump causes overheating overall usally or starts leaking, a bad thermostat getting stucked closed will cause overheating. Oh I have even seen cars where someone pulled the thermostat out to cover that up. Anyway, Stucked closed, Which would cause it to overheat as you drive or it is completly warmed up. You can feel both hoses to check it if it is opening and alowing coolant through the radiator.

- Yes the water pump can make that noise even when new. The pump will keep working until the seal fails. You will see water pissing out of a small hole under the pump and that is when you replace it.

- It's recommended to change the water pump also because your labor cost to open the engine to change the belt, is the exact cost of any future labor cost to change the water pump which, will go bad, eventually. The original pump could last until 170,000 miles but why chance it when the engine is already opened up.
