1. Structure of Safety Valve Description
Hydraulic Surface Safety Valve - SSV is designed to quick closure due to a pipe leak or burst, equipment malfunction, fire, or similar emergency. The Surface safety valve (ssv) is normally closed, pressure needs to be applied to the actuator to compress the spring and open the valve.
The pressure needed to keep the valve open can be provided with a simple hand pump which, in an emergency, is bled off on the rig floor. However, a more sophisticated system called an emergency shut down (ESD) is recommended because it allows the actuator to be activated remotely.

- Q: I have a 66' malibu el camino with a 283 sbc and a powerglide transmission! I have bee noticing a ticking noise on the motor and it miss kind at a rhythm. I took the valve covers off and noticed pieces of metal right by the front of the motor on the head. It is where the #1 piston is. Some of them have kind of a rounded off shape to them. I dont see anything wrong with the springs. but its dark and i cant really see. I also noticed on the even side 2/4/6/8 some of the rocker arms are loose? Some may be loose on the odd side too. not sure, i didnt check them. I found them right where the hole is where im guessing where the oil comes in. What do yall think? It idles kind of rough and i have noticed a loss of power? do i have broken valve springs or something? Thanks for the answers!!!!
- on the valve stem you have 2 keepers, they are small and curved and it could be one of them ! someone worked on that engine before you and either did not put both keepers in or one popped out !
- Q: i have a 05 kx250f, new valves recently,will pop start, idle runs high, has compresion, new kckstarter gear but it wont kickstart. someone said the valves need to be shimmed.anybody have any ideals? thanks.

- Q: When using seafoam through the PCV valve. Which side contains the vacuum? From the crank case of intake manifold? The brake booster line is very difficult to access and on their site it says I can apply seafoam through the pcv valve.
- The PCV valve scavenges OIL VAPORS from the crankcase tthe VALVE COVER. Remove it and you will FEEL the vacuum when you put your thumb over it. It will POP the small pellet inside it. Foolow up with GUMOUT srpay and use BOTH to clean the THROTTLE BODY and the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, the IAC is resonsible for mixing AIR with injecte4d fuel. A dirty IAC will RUIN mileage and clog up the converter. GOOD LUCK!!!
- Q: Liquid propane leaving the reflux pump of a distillation column flows through a 3.5 in ID pipe at a flowrate of 90 lbm/s. There is a flowrate control valve in this line, and it is set such that the pressure drop across the valve (delta)P=15 lbf/in^2. Upstream of the valve , the pressure P1=18 bar and the temperature T1=310 K. Assume there is negligible heat transfer with the surroundings and that the density of the liquid does not change significantly.a) What is the kinetic energy change across the valve?b) What is the enthalpy change across the valve?c) What is the temperature change across the valve?d) What is the entropy change across the valve?
- If there is NO change in the density of liquid propane as it passes through the valve, and if the size (area) of the pipe upstream and downstream of the valve is the same, then a) there will be no change in the velocity of propane, hence there will be no kinetic energy change. b) this is a process of throttling, with no change in kinetic energy, hence there is no change in the enthalpy. c) temperature change can be determined using the detailed property table of propane, but if it is an almost-incompressible liquid, then this too, will be negligible. d) dh = T ds + v dp. - Q: The hot water in my bathroom is leaking from the faucet. I've shut off the valve below the sink, but it continues to dribble out. Also, there appears to be some rust build-up. Could that account for a failing valve?
- It sounds like you have some lime build up in the valves if you can't shut them off or the rubber gaskets inside the valves are worn. Valves are made of brass which doesn't rust. only steel and iron rust. Try tightening the packing nut. That's the nut just below the shut off valve handle. If that doesn't work shut the warter off at the water heater and take the valve apart. First remove the handle from the stem with a screw driver, next remove the packing nut (usually 7/16) then put the handle back on a turn it counter clockwise. Inspent the valve stem, valve seat and the rubber gasket or washer for wear. If you see any lime build up (it will be a hard white substance) remove it with Lime Away or one of those brands. It the valve is very old you may have to replace it. If you own the house replace the valve with a quarter turn ball valve, They are more expensive, but will last a lot longer.

- I assume you are asking about a centrifugal compressor being driven by a gas turbine. You didn't state the service the compressor was in but it is possible in some services for the centrifugal compressor to add a load to the gas turbine's output shaft during the starting cycle. By having the valves closed, there is only the load from compressor wheels) and shaft being accelerated to operating speed. This would permit the gas turbine controls more lee way to get the turbine speed under control before adding significant load to the output shaft. Another consideration is the need to load the compressor in a manner that would get it past the surge point and into a stable operating regime. This can best be done with the compressor at operating speed and a fairly quick addition of load.
