It only really works for a few hours but, sometimes, if you do it enough, it means the cat will tire of going there and find another place to scratch. That's what happened with my (now partially dessicrated!) wicker chairs! Also, some people suggest covering in tin foil as apparently cats hate the feel of it but, man, what a lot of tinfoil! And some kitties like to play under it too. You could buy another cat scratching post and place it bear the sofa and then gradually further and further away. You could also squirt kitty when you catch her at it - she'll learn, at least when you're around, to stop... In terms of getting out the marks - I'd try a specialist leather shop or local upholsterers. They usually have good tips for cleaning and marks and might even come and repair it for you. You'd be amazed what they can do. And I really was thinking about getting a leather sofa and now amn't sure!

- I have brown leather and I use Armor All or a leather lotion from the shoe store. You can go to Footlocker or any athletic shoe store and get some leather shoe cleaner and use it with a soft cloth. Works like magic and helps condition the leather at the same time.
