I am worried he may wet himself or starve. Is this normal? We have a very quiet house and am giving him space.
- Actually, he WILL come from behind the sofa. Simply set out the cats food, water and litter dishes in their future permanent spots and ignore the cat. When you go to bed tonight the cat will come out to eat and poop; and then it will go back under the sofa or find another hidey spot. The cat may do this for weeks. Don't put food under the sofa. The cat will not allow itself to starve under there.

- Yes. We allow our dog on the sofa. We have a cover and dog blankies on it, which we take off (and I vacuum the sofa) when we have company. In fact, I just washed the cover and blankets yesterday. I would like to emphasize that it was our choice to allow the dog on the sofa, not his. When he was a pup, we taught him that the sofa was by invitation-only. As such, he is not territorial or aggressive about the sofa or anyone/anything lazing on the sofa (even the cat who hates him).
