Q:I'm looking at this coffee table, matching end tables, and matching tv stand. I really like the clean transitional pottery barn look for my new apartment. The floors are a light tan, the walls will be probably also a light cream (its a small place so I want open-feeling colors). My problem is finding the sofa color to go. This is the SAME sofa in 2 colors (one is leather but I dont really care). Q:When I was a kid we had a sofa that felt like velvet, but it was much cheaper. Recently, I thought it might be microfiber, but the more I read about it the less sure I am. Could that be the right material? Does microfiber feel similar to velvet?: No, it does not. It was likely velveteen, very similar to velvet, less expensive and not as thick and luxurious. Microfiber is another class of fabric, way down on the quality list. I would never choose microfiber for anything but a duster and sofa material should be cotton or silk or velvet, which is a blend of silk and cotton. Fine metallic threads are a wonderful addition to upholstery fabric but, velvet is my favorite for chairs. A floral with metallic threads is great on a sofa, or velvet. I love velvet. But it should be upholstery quality - more durable than something you would wear. Microfiber is paper thin and cheap. Cheap, cheap and more cheap. Not suitable for upholstery.

Q:I am part of an amateur ghost hunting group and we investigated a house last night. Upon entering a room with older sofas, upon using an emf detector, it spiked to 8 and then buried the needle. Why would this happen? Anyone have any ideas?: Emf meters only detect emf, not ghosts. Chances are that you or another person in the group got too close to the device and your electronic equipment (cell phones, cameras, etc.) provided the emf.

Q:I am moving into an apartment and would love to get some help ...Trying to create a modern look and Im centering the whole decor on our sofa set which is beige green with black brown wood on the edges of its arms.The color palette for the decor will be slat blue, white and a bit of orange (just for the flowers)..Wondering if it okay to get a white coffee table...The tv console is also black-brown.Also, what color should i chose the area rug ? Neutral or Green ? There will be some indoor plants also ...hence the thought for a green rug...Thanks for the help.....: I think, to start off with, that you should get a rug with a neutral color. I know the green would match the kind of beige color sofa and the plants, but I think a little bit of contrast makes the most statement. If you've got a wood floor, which I think you might have, I think either a flat rug or a fringe rug would look good. Maybe one like we have, it has a beige-tan color for the base, along with a dark chestnut brown and a sage green. Its a design of a flower, and I think it completes our look (though far from modern, ours is more of an outdoor, ozarks design.) And I think the coffee table would be a nice touch. White goes with everything and besides that white complements and contrasts darker colors. :) Good luck!

Q:my 1 year old cats ripped our sofa to pieces so we got new leather sofas but how do we stop them scratching them too . At the moment they are outside day and night but they can't really live out there because we live in the country side and who knows what they could do !!: put some double sided tape on your sofa, cats hate that. Once she sets her paws on the tape, she'll hate it and become bored of your sofa. Then you can Just take off the tape and enjoy your sofa!

Q:Can I make a Scrub mixing oatmeal n costic sofa as to peel off the upper layer of skin?I mean not to just exfoliate but to just peel off the upper layer properly? Do you mean caustic soda? It's also known as lye and sodium hydroxide. It's an ingredient in many soaps, so if it's diluted properly it can clean your face. But if not diluted properly, it can quite literally eat your skin away, never mind the upper layer. Unless you find a recipe for what you want to do, I wouldn't touch it. I don't know that chemical peeling of your skin is something that's a DIY thing.
