If you got a well made sleeper sofa (Henredon, Jennifer Convertibles, Lazy Boy, etc.) that should not be a problem. If you bought it at Value City or Big Lots, you might have a problem.

Q: My couch(sofa) is sinking in and its not very thick anymore, we don't have enough money to afford a new one, with the holidays coming up, is there something we can buy to put under the cushions.: plywood, 3/4 inch. or if you are too poor for that, anything you can stuff under there. I wanted to make some permanent couches out of trees. My wife bought some for $3000 instead. Mine would have cost like $200 for cushions and would have been nicer. You can get them in the trash too, or from thrift stores for like $50 sometimes. A roommate and noticed a nice one in the trash once and we exchanged it with ours.

Q: I have an old wing back style sofa that I'd like to re-upholster. I've tried slipcovers, but they never fit right and they slip and slide and just look messy. Is this something I could learn to do on my own, or is this too much of an undertaking for a beginner? I can sew, and have a sew. machine (a regular Kenmore, not a heavy duty). Is buying a tempurpedic matress worth it? What are some pros/cons with it?Thank you in advance for your help!: Buying an extra expensive mattress for your guests sounds like a waste of money. You can get a good mattress, even one similar to Tempu-pedic or whatever for less. Buy a generic one, but there are some nice sleeper sofas that you could get and not have to buy a separate mattress. I used to have a sleeper sofa and I loved it. Get one with a nice thick mattress where it doesn't feel lumpy - that way your guests will have a sofa when they want one and a couch when they want one. And you can save space and money. Also try craigs list for this stuff.

Q: I have one of those crappy ikea beds with the pine slats that hold up the single mattress. Instead of tossing it, I would like to convert it into a sofa. If I can chop it up and make it work it would be a fun and rewarding project. Any plans or suggestions would be great. Thanks my people!: mrriskey007 Great idea. Most of the work is already done. Chop it so that you have the correct porportion back to seat. Move the back's legs to the position for the seat's rear legs. Consider adding a middle set of legs. Obtain a new spar that will run the sofa's length and it will be the seat's rear frame. Install, maybe, the middle leg to it. The back's connection to the seat's rear might be as simple as a 1/2 thick piece of plywood used as a gusset. Picture a 45 degree x 90 degree triangle with the short leg fastened to the seat rear and the long leg fastened to the back. Size the triangle for best strength. Adjust the 90 degree angle for the best back to seat angle. Glue and screw seat frame to gusset as well as the back. Gusset will also help to contain seat's cushions. Will need two of these, one for each end of the sofa (duh). Might consider one for the center for additional strength of the the back to seat (plus the middle leg if needed). Whalla -- done. Sofa arm rests at its ends are simple to add too. Select a piece of stock that will be the sofa's seat front leg extention as an upright for the front of the arm rest. Select stock for horizontal part of the arm. Consider using a gusset to connect those to pieces. Connect the arm to the rear of the sofa which is the back frame. Q: I have a 5 month Beagle pup, And have never had a problem with him chewing anything other than socks. I have heard stories of them chewing leather sofas, so every time we go out we shut him in the kitchen as we have a leather one, the only time he's allowed in there on his own is if im quickly going to the shop and am only gone for 5 mins, and have always came home to find him just sat on the sofa waiting for me. Thanks!: The very first sofa i ever bought was a kroehler, at that time the brand was only in the better stores, it didnt wear out at all but eventually every time i redecorated, i bought other brands, including some expensive ones, none of which were any better overall. I finally bought another Kroehler, this time from Value City, and anyone who visited loved it for its looks and comfort! It, too, held up perfectly for years.

Q: I just purchased a deep red microfiber sofa at an auction and would like to know the best way to give it an overall cleaning...: rent a carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment, you should find the soap in the same isle. Pretreat heavy stains first then clean according to machine and soap directions and it sould clean up nicely. It is important that it is compltly dry bfore sitting on. Good Luck!

Q: I also have a choice of sofa colors in taupe, cream.pewter. or midnight blue. I'm not very good at matching colors and don't know what would look best, Any help would be appreciated.: with seafoam, i would go with either dark chocolate browm, or a light and airy white or beige. seafoam is a pastel, so stick with other pastels and dark browns/greys. taupe might work depending on the context, but definitly stay away from midnight blue. cream might be not pop enough in contrast to sea foam, i would stick with whiter whites.
