Q:I'm having a hard time finding a sofa that is both attractive and comfortable. I like sofas that recline and I'm fairly tall, so most of the sofas I've looked at aren't all that attractive. Did you face the same trade-off between comfort and beauty? How did you solve the problem?

I would keep looking until I found a sofa that was both attractive and comfortable. Have you tried a good leather sofa? The stores that specialize in them have many to choose from according to your size.

Q:Does this happen to anyone else? It is ruining our new sofa, and we keep cleaning it the best we can, but she is destroying it. I tried No-Go, which is sold at the pet store and supposed to keep them from going on stuff. Their litter boxes are always clean. A few years ago, I took my cat to the vet and she told be that my cat is depressed and needs some Prozac, seriously, but how is one supposed to afford/believe that? Any ideas? (BTW, we have 3 cats, and all are fixed except one, and age from 3-8 years old.)

I think the reason is territorial marking - you do say the sofa is new. The cat that is highest in the heirarchy of the 3 is marking the sofa. What I would try is: keep the cat (or all the cats) away from the sofa for a few days (especially when you're not there to observe her). Praise her every time she goes in the litterbox. Allow the cat in the same room as the sofa _only_ when you're there and can pay attention to her. When she starts preparing to pee sniffing around on the sofa, crouching, etc., pick her up and closet yourself with the cat and the litterbox in another room / bathroom. When she uses the litterbox, praise her. Another version... put aluminum foil or double-sided tape for a while on the sofa. That should keep the cats from going up on it. Aluminum foil may be removed when there are guests / the sofa will be used very easily...

Sofa beds come in different sizes. If it is a double size sofa, then a double mattress will fit. You will have to measure it to be sure.

Usuanlly a non-acidtone nail remover will remove the spot without eating thru the fabric, but the trick is to blot it and not rub it. Considering that you have a white sofa though, and depending upon the type of fabric depends upon how it hold holds the stain. If it's on a seating cushion, and it still dosen't work your best bet is to flip it.

Q:Working on a new couch/sofa decor in my living room (Macy's) and I do need the feature of it opening into a bed so i can place a guest in there... However i am NOT looking for a futon... Any ideas how I would find out if the cushions come out and you just pull it out? Some description? Anyone dealt with this before?

Think carefully about buying this, they can be very expensive, not used often and extremely uncomfortable. They are heavy as elephants to move for cleaning and vacuuming as well. We did purchase one when we finally had an extra bedroom that we used as an office with a loveseat (that pulled out). Another option you really might consider is a really good inflatable bed, elevated, with the velour top and slight pillows. We purchased one in queen size on sale for less than $100, it fits in a corner of a closet, has a compressor, inflates in under 5 minutes and is very comfortable. I have a terrible back. When we moved I had to what three months for our furniture in another state and slept on the inflatable bed. It was fabulous? I thought I would have booku back problems but serious did not. This is a really good option, inexpensive, you can use it outside of your home as well, they DO NOT leak (we've had our for ten years) and use regular blankets and sheets. Worth considering.

Q:I would like to buy a couch but don't know what kind to get. I would like it to be comfortable. It would sit in front of the tv. I don't like leather because it can get hot. What brand, model, or material should I get?

Microfiber is comfortable and stylish.

Q:I have an off-white microfiber sofa, and the cushions are getting dirty. They unzip so I can machine wash them, but I don't know the settings, or if I need to use some kind of special gentle soap. Also, can I use the spray stain remover beforehand? There are some spots that I'm extra worried about. Thanks in advance!

My experience has been they shrunk and faded. They didn't go back on without ripping, and the color didn't match the body of the sofa.
