Q: My cat loves to sleep on the sofa that I just bought. so I am trying to find a way to protect my furniture from my cat's hair.: Cover the new sofa with a pretty quilt or sheet, or sofa cover only they are expensive to buy. We use a quilt, and once dirty just wash and reuse. It works very well, my furniture all though a few years old looks brand new. Best Wishes!

Q: I am decorating the sitting room in my new house and I am looking for some advice on sofa colours I am putting down a French oak floor, the room is fairly big so I was going to buy an extra large sofa and a large sofa, the colors available are beige, caramel, Berry red, and chocolate brown The walls are similar in colour to magnolia. And I was considering painting the chimney breast red with a paint called Tir Na Nog, its not a really bright red it is an older richer red My initial thought was to go for beige, but a friend recommended an extra large sofa in caramel and the large in berry red, she thinks the beige would be hard to keep clean with two dogs in the house.Do you think this colour scheme would work, or would I be better of sticking to one colour, and if so what colour do you think I should go for, or what colour do you think I should stay away from?: Personally I think the caramel would look great with your flooring and magnolia walls, very rich and comfortable too, plus it won't show pet dirt as quickly as the other choices. Pull your magnolia in with pillows, window treatments, an area rug and/or a side chair in bolder fabrics to make the whole room look custom made to your taste. When picking accent fabrics, choice 3 with similar colors with each a different size pattern, one small, one medium and one large print. That way, they coordinate the colors you are using together but don't compete with each other. I'd do both sofas the same color. Also, going with a neutral on your large pieces makes them versatile if you decide you want to change the rooms color later on. I'd play around with the fireplace color, since walls are rather bold, a light neutral could really make the fireplace pop! Good luck and have fun with it!

Q: My 2 year old was ill the other day and puked on my sofa, I tried cleaning it straight away and soaking as much up and then using vanish upholstery cleaner, the puke is no longer there but it smells and I want to clean it before Xmas. What is the best way to clean the sofa? With an electrical upholstery cleaner or steamer? I'm going to buy one today. Many thanks: If you can get an upholstery cleaner, do use it. That should work. Make sure you spend extra time extracting the water. You don't want to leave this sofa wet. Extract as much moisture as possible. That is key. Make sure you pay extra attention to things like crevices. If the pillows lift off, remove them and clean under them, of course. If your sofa is slipcovered, wash the slipcover. If you have throw pillows, wash them in the washer, if possible. Once the sofa is dry and clean, then do this as an added measure - sprinkle the sofa with a good amount of baking soda. Let the baking soda sit there for an hour. Then vacuum well. Baking soda is great at absorbing and removing odors. But it will only work where it can get at, of course - so anything deeper in the sofa, you'll hopefully get via your upholstery cleaning machine. And a nice, microfiber/synthetic, washable slipcover may be something you want to consider for now, while your kids are young. The microfiber/synthetic material helps, because often, it's less quick to absorb liquids than cottons and etc. are, so you may be able to keep the stain from going as far into the couch itself as it did this time. And they will help protect your sofa from markers, paint, crayons, milk - the usual kid dirt.

Q: I accidently got the cap of a non-acetone nail polish remover on my dark brown leather sofa, and now there is a white ring around it. I know people sometimes use nail polish remover to remove ink stains on leather, but is there any way to reverse the damage of the nail polish remover on my sofa? please help!: This was posted by someone who had used nail polish remover to remove nail polish from her leather sofa and was left with lighter spots -- it was not a dark brown sofa like yours, but . . .: After I was done I could notice a pretty big change in the color. My sofa was a Camel color. I then remembered someone using balm to condition leather. I got some Vermont's Original Bag Balm and massaged it through and let it stay. It made the leather's color even out a lot! Also leaving it so nice and soft. I swear it is the same stuff Dr. Martin uses for there leather shoe conditioner. This worked for me and I was at the point of giving up and getting something to just cover the sofa. Again, this was dime size spots. Maybe you can find something like this (a good leather conditioner) out there that will help on your sofa as well, either on the internet, or a good shoe store or leather goods store. Good luck!!

Q: So healthy urine Track infection free cats.. who gets love attention, food water, 2 private litter boxes one self cleaning one standard. I have 4 cats, all spayed. I don't know what's wrong.. they don't pee anywhere but my living room mainly on my sofa when it's covered with plastic or fabric... otherwise under it or in the opposite corner. I don't know what's going on with them.. it's been months.. of a nearly daily occurance. Every morning and night they get cuddled and played with (they are only alone a few hours out of the day and that's not nessecarily when they pee.) don't know what else it can be. Q: We have a fabric-type sofa. We have 2 dogs. One sleeps on there as much as she can!!! She's a Choc. Lab so a larger dog. She gets the sofa smelling!I plan on taking a carpet cleaner to it to get it clean.How can I protect it from smells? Q: its time for me to buy a new bed and i really dont want to spend alot of money. would i be able to use a sofa bed on a regular basis... if not what are some sites where i would be able to fuind a cheap bed?: I know you don't want to spend too much money but keeping your back in shape and your body not sore is more important. I'd buy a good quality mattress, make payments if necessary because in the long run it's worth it. And a good mattress will last years. Sofa bed mattresses are better nowadays than they used to be, but still not good to sleep on every night and if you get a cheap mattress, trust me in a year it will be junk. You get what you pay for. A good mattress is a good investment even if you have to put it on the floor until you can afford the bed. Good luck. Oh and buying a used mattress.....?.....uh I don't know how you feel about laying on someone elses' stuff...but I wouldn't. Get a new one.

Q: I've had dark blue upholstered sofas and black dogs for years with no problems. The dogs shed, but it doesn't show up on the sofas. However I recently rescued an English Mastiff and she's got light hair, which shows up really bad against the dark colors.
