Q: I have tried rug cleaning sprays and powders and vacummed it many times. I don't know what else to do and don't want to replace my rug!
vinager or lestoil - you can shampoo with it too - alot of those sprays do not kill enzymes
Q: What is a carpet ironing belt?
Carpet hot belt is a kind of advanced imported adhesive material composite, stable performance, safety non-toxic, strong adhesive force, high temperature resistance, flexibility, not easy to crack materials.
Q: Water from a faulty air conditioner dripped onto a small area of the fitted carpet in our bedroom. The patch is no longer wet, perhaps slightly damp, but the smell is horrible. Any advice please. Changing the carpet is not an option.
If you have a carpet cleaner (or can borrow or rent one) I would do it. There are special carpet cleaners that are heavy duty and for mold/mildew/pets and will get rid of most smells. We had some flooding in a carpeted room, and it took a couple of cleanings, but you can't smell anything funky any longer. We used regular cleaner the first time and the heavy duty stuff the second time. As a temporary solution, you could out some baking soda on the carpet, leave a day or so and vacuum it up. But, if the smell is in the carpet pad, it won't do much.
Q: we live in a rented apartment, we have carpet installed but we would prefer hard wood so much better. is there a way, inexpensive much preferred, to have hard wood over the carpet without damaging the carpet? hope to hear some interesting suggestions, thanks!!
You can't put hardwood over carpet. The softness of the carpet would let the hard floor flex and would eventually come apart, break or crack.
Q: rug is wool. its new. it costs 80 dollars to clean with the company.. id rather do it by hand.what besides hot water and a rug.. do i put on it to clean it by hand?
Prop it up off the floor with wadded newspaper where you can. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and let it sit overnight then vacuum it up. In the morning put some vanilla extract in a empty spray bottle with warm water and spray the carpet lightly. Between the vanilla and the baking soda treatments the smell will be neutralized. Open windows if you can..The formaldehyde smell lasts a good week.
Q: i dont have enough money to re-carpet my floor. for my room my dad says that it would cost about $500. but we dont have enough spare money for that kind of thing (we're saving for disney.) but i hate my carpet! it has stains all over it that i cant get out. and its a girly periwinkle color. he said that i can re-paint it. but i cant paint it the color i want because the carpet wont work with it. i dont know what to do. my room is SO tiny as it is and i dont like it very much already. my parents have the biggest room (obviously) my older brother has the second biggest, my little brother has the third (i could have had it but it has green walls and red carpet) and my older sisters room is the same size as my little brother's. what is an alternative to recarpeting my room so i dont have to pay as much??? is there ANY ideas, anything that might help is appretiated, thanks!!!
1] find out what is underneath it - don't rip up the carpet, find out first. 2] find a carpet company near you, that sells remnants. Measure your room exactly first - you can sometimes find a great deal! 3] get carpet steam cleaner or have professionally cleaned. 4] get an inexpensive area rug to put over carpet. 5] get a job, and buy your own carpet!
Q: My carpet in my living room has become stiff. I regularly shampoo it and it is rinsed thoroughly. Any suggestions as to how to make it soft again?
It sounds like you use too much shampoo? I would try going over it with just clear water This will remove surface dirt and soften the pile
Q: kids had a musrard fight on a neutral colored carpet
Hi, Unfortunately there is nothing that will take out a mustard stain, it depends on how old the carpet is, but you could try to claim on your warranty through the manufacturer wether it's shaw, Mohawk, Gulistan, etc.. ask where you bought the carpet and make a claim. Unfortunately under a stain warranty coffee, tea and mustard are not covered but you could try. What has happened is that the yellow from the mustard has thoroughly died the carpet fiber from it's original color.. Any harsh cleaner will discolor the carpet so be careful...Try the cleaning line by Capture..they have it at Lowes or Home Depot in the flooring dept. It's really good. Some stains require multiple attempts AFTER it dries . Good Luck... Chris 7 yrs Flooring Specialist Lowes, michigan
Q: My carpet is going to kill me. This is southern texas, and there is always dust everywhere. How can I thoroughly clean the carpet? I really can't afford a big machine, and I borrowed my moms cheap one, and it did nothing. If I buy carpet cleaner, can I just scrub it with my tub scrub brush or something?

Q: I need a 10' x 6' or 11' x 7' area rug. the rug will be underneath a table and chairs with wheels. lots of traffic in this area. what should I look for? what type of material? who is a good manufacturer of area rugs?what retailer sells good ones?
first of all, are you looking for an heirloom piece? Try oriental rugs or persian rugs. Very costly. Can set you back a couple grand but will increase in value over time. you need to look behind the rug for the quality. You are looking for handstitched and lots of detail, etc. The most important characteristic for me is durability and washability. Some you can put into the washer, others need special cleaners, some are spot clean only. The second characteristic important to me is texture. I like plush soft carpets that you can walk on with your bare feet. Of course, color choice and design are important. (floral? transitional? contemporary?) I like transitional. I'm a fan of Mohawk and Shaw area rugs. You can find them at Home Depot. Reasonable prices for machine made rugs.
