- Q: I have a grounding wire for my HIDs which I need to increase the length for. How do I do this?
- The best way would be to obtain a piece of wire the same gauge(thickness),and solder the wires together, and use shrink tube to cover the connection. If you don't have access to shrink tube, use a high grade electrical tape. The reason i suggest this as the best choice,is that HIDs are high amperage ,so that is the first choice. The second ,and easier ,is again obtaining the same type wire, and use what is called a butt connector. You strip the ends of the wires, insert them into the butt connector, and crimp the connector. You can usually buy an inexpensive wire stripper-crimper electrical kit that come with connectors at a pep-boys,advance auto or some other auto discount store for under ten dollars.Make sure that the connections are tight and secure.Shrink tube is usually included in these kits, also
- Q: I had recently closed up an outlet by taking the four wires and capping them off. Only to find out the two of the wires were for the ceiling fan power. I have a black and a white wire newer travelers to the ceiling fan, and two old cloth wires which look black. I do have an electrical tester and just want power for the fan, I will cover up the outlet. What wires go where ?
- Tie the two (hot) blacks together, the two neutral together, wire nut and overwrap with electrical tape. If you have neutrals(bare or green) tie these together as well. Then out your blank cover on the outlet. Make sure you don't have the power on when you do this! Also, remember that you should not permanently cover the outlet - don't drywall or plaster over it. It becomes a junction box, and must be accessible. To tell which is hot use your meter from wire to ground, if you get voltage (if the power is on) that is hot. To check while power is off, neutral to ground will have 0 or 1 ohm (Ohm setting) while hot to ground has overload (OL) on the readout. The wires to the fan will BOTH be dead, and will both be overload when tested in the OHM setting. To check that the two that go to the fan really do, turn the fan on and check ohms between both wires. It should read low ohms. Turn the fan off, and it will go to overload' Hope I haven't made it too confusing, it is much easier to show than tell!
- Q: i need the wire diagram for a kenwood kdcmp4032.... i mainly need to know which wire to hook up the remote wire for an amp.
- it is the blue wire now if there are 2 blue wires the one with the white stripe is the amp remote wire the other is for the power antenna and will only activate when the radio is on as in tuner am/fm not when the cd is playing
- Q: The infamous headlight switch please help
- What is so infamous about plugging the wiring to the switch? It will only plug in one way. UPDATE 8/6/11: In over 45 years, I've only replaced one headlight switch that had melted and that was on a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and the driver had left the headlights on all night and yes it drained the battery. The plastic plug had melted but the wires had not burned through, so I had something to work with. There is a possibility you can find a wiring diagram on Auto Zones website for your car, they do have an extensive library or you could try to find a Haynes manual for your car. Or if you are low on $$ if you tell us what manufacturer, model, year of car you drive someone here might be able to help.
- Q: I have a 98 RS Eclipse (420a) and i would like some opinions and recommendations for spark plug wires. Who makes the best or very good wires for my engine??
- The stock ones are made by Mopar. They fit and work.
- Q: I am trying to hook up my motorcycle turn signals but am having trouble with the wiring. Off of each signal stem comes a red wire (positve) and black wire (negative). Then coming form my bike I have a purple wire, blue wire, and green wire. I was messing around with the connections and was able to get all my signals to light up, but not in the fashion i need, like blinking correctly. Any suggestions? Do I need to split the wires? Does one wire go to the left signal and one to the right?
- There are many model specific forums out there that would probably be a better place to ask this question. If this is a common model of motorcycle I would try looking for one. To hazard a guess, the green wire should be split and connected to the black wires. The purple and blue would then be the positive. Trial and error would tell you left and right. If you have a multimeter it would eliminate the guesswork.
- Q: I Have a 02 Dodge ram with the 5.9L engine and i purchased a O2 simulator because i wanted to remove the cats. what i need to know is which wire is the Signal, 12 volt, and the ground wire on the oxygen sensor. If anyone has any idea please share some info.
- The wires should be color coated. Usually if it is a 4 wire o2 there are two white wires and two black wires and the blacks are both grounds. Same should go with the 2 wire o2 the black is usually the ground and the wite is the 12v wire.
- Q: I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red, green, black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black, white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks
- If you have 10 AWG wire then you probably have a 30 amp breaker, correct? If so, you can't wire a standard 110v outlet on that large of a breaker. Duplex outlets are only rated for 20 amps. 30 amps and you're into range receptacles. You would probably need to install a sub-panel so you can switch down to a smaller wire size/breaker for the outlet. You could run the red, white and green into the sub-panel as the power source and then install a 15 or 20 amp breaker using 14 or 20 AWG wire to the receptacle respectively.
- Q: I need to get some wire to hook my capacitor to my amp and every wire I see says that it's power/ground cable wire. Does this mean it's power wire? Or ground wire? Or does it mean you can use it for both?
- you can use it for both same stuff
- Q: hey i have a 2005 toyota corolla soprt. i need help finding the remote wire, and some colors arent even on the diagram. please help i dont wanna have to buy another alternator and battery like i already have!thanks!
- Are you using the factory radio? If you are there isn't going to be a remote wire, if it has factory amps, it might. You should just use a switched source, the 12v+ switched for the radio would be fine. If it is aftermarket stereo it should be a blue/white stripe wire.
