- Q: I'm really interested in joining the U.S Navy, hopefully to be a Construction Mechanic (CM). Will i be able to get my ASE after my A-School? Or do i get it after my duty? - Q: Since ore grades continue to get lower and lower it would seem that we will never run out of metals in the foreseeable future. Is this because mining methods are more efficient and economical?
- As demand for metals goes up, price goes up making lower grade material economic to mine. Mining methods are more efficient to a point but is the dollar value per ton that is the driving force. Gold is the best current example of this: large scale mines 10 years ago would have been mining at an average grade of 1.5-2 grams per tonne. Today mining is economical in the same mine down to 0.5 grams per tonne.
- Q: I looking for any possible suggestions on how to flip a large flat piece of steel weighing 25kip that is 12.5ftX9ftX0.5ft. At the company I work for we already use an overhead crane with a chain wrapped around the piece of steel to flip it but this takes too long. I have explored options of using clamps with the crane but none of the vertical clamps are big enough or affordable enough and other clamps don't promise to be a sufficient option. One last thought which seems best is welding two pad-I's to one side of the piece of steel and hooking chains to the pad-I's but that requires welding and arcing time. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks!
