with wool rugs this is very common. When they make the rug lots of little pieces of loose wool get into the air and end up in the carpet itself. Its not a problem, vacuum lots, use a vacuum with a power head.

Q:Okay, so that's 2 questions in one. Don't hold it against me. Instead, please suggest a cleaner (or a home-made recipe/solution) for cleaning and shining stainless steel small appliances (coffee maker, panini maker, barmen's toolset, and some others) and for how to get set-in stains out of a small oriental rug. Don't know the composition of the stains; they've been there for awhile. They are on a white-ish background. Thanks!

For the stainless steel appliances, I like to use Cerama Bryte- they make several stainless steel cleaners. When I am out, I use vinegar.

Use hairspray but the kind in an aresol can and dab don't rub, keep using fresh paper towel, I've gotten pen and grease out of coats, carpet etc with it but the trick it to dab and keep using fresh paper towel. Also when you get to just a bit left scrub it with TSP Tri Sodium Phosphate worked for me with chinese red candle spill on my beige carpet, it was aa wool carpet worked really well, with candle paper towel and an iron, ink just paper towel and aresol hairspray. Q:We just rented a house and the carpet has a very powerful urine smell. The landlord said he had the carpet cleaned and won't pay more. Is there a way to remove the smell permently? I don't want to mask the smell. i need a solution that really works and is cheap and effective. I see no visable stains just the super strong odor. I think it is berber carpet

Get a black light to locate the problem areas. But it could be that it was so soaked with urine it went underneath and affected the actual floor. If that's the case it needs to be torn out and replaced. If your landlord refuses I would seek legal advice. Anyway, if you can locate the problem with the black light soak it with a viengar/water solution (50.50 mix) and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Once it dries vacuum it up. That should solve your problem. but like I said, if it's gone through the carpet to the actual flooring you're going have to demand more be done. That's nasty, I hope you're able to get it solved quickly!

Q:Is professionally cleaning a FILTHY carpet enough or should it just be replaced?I am moving into a house with a FILTHY carpet. Truly disgusting, just nasty. The house stinks bad because of it. The landlord says he will get it professionally cleaned. I would rather have all the carpet taken out and replaced...or some other flooring put in. Is professionally cleaning a carpet that great of an idea? Does it only get the top surface clean..or does it clean deep down?

Professional cleaning can accomplish a lot. I've seen a really grubby carpet that was 5 shades lighter after it was cleaned. Why don't you wait and see how the carpet looks after cleaning?

Q:carpet seems to be deteriorating and flying in air..manufacturerer says it is not from their carpet. By using wet sponge, I collect specimens from around edges of carpet that are the color of the carpet and look like wet cardboard.

Good heavens, that's strange. Did you buy this carpet yourself, or was it already there? Do you know what the material is? I have lived in five houses with wall-to-wall carpeting and have never, ever seen that. If you can't find out what the material is on the phone, then take a piece of it to Home Depot or a specialty carpeting store or someplace like that and get some help. If you have major problems with this, I would call your local television news station and get them interested in a faulty product story. This might pressure the carpeting manufacturer to pay some attention to your issue. One final note though: whoever owned the carpet before you might have applied some kind of product to the carpet which is causing its detioration. Good luck.

In the US--Usually, the carpet they remove when they replace it with the new carpet is discarded. If the owner of the home didn't care to keep it, the carpet store could take it with them. They could resell it and install it somewhere else if they found a buyer. But if they are selling it as new, and it is not, they could be sued for fraud. Some states may have specific health and safety laws prohibiting them from reselling the carpet, but I don't know of any.
