- You will have to switch out the headset to go from caged to sealed bearings. Most modern bicycles come with a 1.125, also known as 1 1/8 inch headset. It would be a very odd late model bike that would come with a 1 headset. If you want to replace it yourself check out the links below for all sorts of useful information. Remember that most of the race cups into which the bearings fit are aluminum and are relatively soft so use wood or a special tool to install correctly. Headsets are definitely one area where a bigger hammer does not work. Setting the star nut requires a lot of patience or a special tool, so think about having a shop swap the headset. It's a common repair and with the right tools reasonably quick. Best of luck!
- Q:I have reds bones bearings and they were all fine until today. I got them over a month ago and haven't cleaned them. Today I ran over a pebble going fast and fell. Right after that my bearings on one of my wheels stopped spinning. I could ride but they don't spin when I spin them with my hand. I think something got in the bearings. It's both of the bearings in the wheel not just one. What could I do to check if there's anything in them? What do I do if there is? And how do I clean the bearings? What do I need? - Here are some good links to visit. What I do is: Pop of the sheild with a small nail, or you could use a thumbtack Clean them with a reccomended cleaner Ex. rubbing alcohol Spin them pinching the middle with my fingers to remove dirt, Dry them, Put the sheilds back on, Wipe the bearings with the sheilds on, on a old towel to make them look new, And put some Bones speedcream in them, Put em' back on the wheels. - Q:i have rush abec 3 bearings, and i cant DROP IN on the mini ramp, i have to push in the middle because if i drop in my board will go over the coping, im wondering what bearings are good to go fast enough but slow enough to where i can control it when i drop in
- Don't get slow bearings, just work around the miniramp problem. Either rock over the coping to get rid of that momentum, or pivot turn on your way down. By the way, fast bearings=good bearings=less replacements=more $$ Either find a way to lose momentum or find a bigger ramp

- Bones are pretty good. You might want to look at what your favorite skateboarder uses. Reflex and ninja bearings are also pretty good.
- Q:okay so i just wanted to know where i could get the bearing cage retainer( holds the bb's ) i came across a site but i want to find something thats cheaper in price but still last a good or long amount of time, and also they have the bb's but they dont say how much come with the purchase and dont know which brand is good.so if you know anything about which is a good brand please help me out.i want ones that spin good and good cage retainers.please give me the sites if you know any or where i can get them.oh and for skateboards just in case anyone missed that the first time.and dont write me saying just purchase them at a skate shop.i already have bearings in my tool box that need to be cleaned i just want to get some cage retainers and the right sized bb's.thanks.
