Q: can i use rubbing acholhol?
sure but i used to use black magic tire wet on them, to keep em moving fast! Also a rag with soem wd-40 will keep me in good shape and acutlly keep em cleaner longer, though grim may stick to it they be nice and slick for while, dont dont use anything water based.
Q: About how much would it cost to hire a mechanic to change my pistons and or my piston bearings in my 1998 Pontiac Firebird 3.8L V6?????
there is more to it than that, first of all if you need pistons and bearings then more likely than not there will be excessive wear on the crankshaft, and also you are going that far, the heads should be rebuilt, because putting a new short block, with old worn out heads, invites more problems. Besides, it would be cheaper for you to buy a long block, and have it installed, than pull the motor and take it apart, add a few parts and put back together an undependable collection of old and new and worn parts. Personally I would put a later model 5.4 chevy small block engine, transmission with the wiring harness and computer. this will make a screaming quick firebird, with about the same fuel mileage.
Q: i was going to buy new bearings but don't know what to get.

Q: like anything around the house or cheap
There are citrus cleaners on the market (you may have some around the house like Desolvit or Goo B Gone or some orange cleaner) which can be used for cleaning bearings with. Not all bearings are serviceable, meaning that you can remove the protective shield on one side. The ones that are usually have a rubber seal on one side and the other is metal. You have to pop off pin holding on the shield and remove it, then remove the ball bearings. You can drop them in the cleaner and wipe out the crud inside the housing, then dry them off good and allow to air dry then re-assemble. After that you'll need some oil or hi-speed grease to pack them with and put back together. For bearings that aren't servicable you have a couple choices, either oil them (which is messy and the dirt will stay inside, but they will be a little faster), or I think they sell some cleaner in a jar for about $8-10 you can drop them in which supposedly cleans them then you have to oil them. But I don't think it works that great Good luck
Q: whats the best skateboard bearings? i dnt have much money, i spent 50 dollars on an element deck and i bought wheels, trucks, and griptape. Now all i need is bearings i would prefer something under 15 dollars im looking for best price not best quality, i want them to last but im pretty new to skateboarding and all i can do is ollie. I want something cheap. Please help!!!
Dude, you bought all that stuff then went home to ask the internet what bearings to get? That's really weird. just get shop bearings, they're cheap and work fine.
Q: http://www.amazon .uk/Bones-Reds-Skateboard-Bearings-Red/dp/B000FDRQ1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1377987075sr=8-1keywords=bones+redsAnd tell me if the price is good for their quality.
These bearings are amazing for skateboarding. I bought a pack and I love them. They are well built and durable bearings for a fantastic price. I would buy them for sure.
Q: My buddy bearing popped out. I think grease got all over the wheel. How do I clean the wheel and repack the beaing with grease once I put on the new buddy bearing.
here's okorder /
Q: All bearings are designed with tolerances to allow the moving parts to move, but how are wear limits determined? In other words, after time, the components will start to wear out and the bearing will become looser. Looking at some aircraft maintencance manuals, they provide wear limits in the radial and axial directions. But how are these wear limitis determined? Is there a particular calculation that is done or is an arbitruary number chosen?
General ideas only. In the case of journal bearings with forced lubrication (oil pressure), increasing clearance results in oil pressure drop. Ideally, journal bearings hold an oil film which supports the rotating shaft and minimizes metal/metal contact. Automobile engines run for hundreds of thousands of miles using this strategy. Radial ball bearings will tolerate excess clearance (depending on the load) but the shafts they support often will not. In cases where oil seals are used, excess shaft play damages seals and permits leaking. In the case of motor or pump shafts, bearing slack permits rotor/stator contact or impeller/involute contact. Rotating masses are never perfectly balanced or axially aligned. Bearing slack multiplies unbalanced force and consequent load.
Q: Alright, I don't know if it would be a good Idea to put the Water shield repelling coat spray that you put on shoes, on Longboard bearings. Since I ride my longboard constantly, and I really would like to ride it in the rain. As much as I want to do that, I don't want to get my bearings rusty or at risk from them being rusty. So I was thinking if you could put water repellent spray on my bearings.
That may me very bad for your bearings. Anything applied to bearings other than official skate bearing lubricants will damage your bearings. It may clog or mix in with the lubricants already in your bearings, which will cause it to slow down/not perform at its best.
Q: f-250 changing front wheel bearings?
Well, what's the problem? Do you need to know how to do it? How much it cost? What are wheel bearings? You have tapered bearings. When they go bad you change the inner and outer bearing plus wheel grease seals then get them repacked. Sometimes you can just have them tightened and that fixes it
