Q:do speakers function better with thick or thin wires??

The wiring in your car audio system is very important. The higher the gauge of wire you choose to use the less resistance will be placed on the amplifier or head unit (which have internal amplifiers). This means more power to the speakers and ultimately more quality sound. It depends on the wattage of the system to determine the appropriate gauge of wire but as a rule the bigger the better. I would recommend getting a good quality speaker wire. Good speaker wires use the most conductive metals for the wire material, such as copper. They feature thick jackets that wont wear through from rubbing and vibrations. Choose a good 16-18 gauge wire from a company like Streetwires. Dont cheap out on your speaker wire its an important part of your installation.

If your Router is not a wireless router then deffinitely your Links wireless Usb Wouldn't work

If you can, put the wire in a bench vice and use a hacksaw to cut your wire. You can still use the hacksaw even if you don't have a bench vice. It just makes it easier. Hope this helps good luck. Richard

Q:I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red,green,black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black,white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks

While it is not code, and I wouldn't advertise that you're doing it, you can quite easily take standard 12-2 romex, hook black to black, white to white and bare copper to the green, then install a 20 amp GFCI receptacle on the end of the 12-2 to run your drain valve.

Q:I was looking at the wiring of my current thermostat and I want to know why it's wired the way it is...The yellow wire was wrapped around the white terminal and the yellow terminal. And the white wire was wrapped the around the Orange terminal. The red and green wires were each wrapped around their respective terminals. And the blue wire wasn't connected to anything. Why would the electrician have wrapped the yellow wire around 2 terminals? Is that normal? Also, I tried installing a new thermostat but the heating is not working. The fan works but it just blows room temperature air. The new thermostat only had 4 terminals for R, Y, W, G. I connected the wires I had to their respective terminals. However, I think it may not be working because I have a probably have a heat pump. Any Ideas why else it might not be working? Thanks a lot!

You should take sketches of the thermostats and wires to your favorite plumbing heating store, and talk to a service person, if you feel competent enough to do the proper connections yourself. Also, include details of the thermostat wiring connections to your heating unit. Otherwise, get such a person to come over to your house to do the work.

Q:I'm replacing the ground wire in a chandelier because it has been cut by the previous owner when it was removed from the ceiling. Overall it is pretty simple and I have everything diagramed. When I went to Radio Shack and bought the replacement wire they gave me 18 gauge solid insulated hookup wire. It looks totally different. The ground wire is a braided copper wire (7 strands). Should I go back and take my copper wire with me and get copper or is what I have just as good? An electrician will do the installation of the chandelier into the ceiling.

Ground wire is common convention at electrical boxes. Ground wire from point to point in any circuit is part of the wiring cable used. On a ceiling light, there is little danger of electrical shock if there is no ground wire from the fixture to the metal box. However, your replacement wire will work just fine.

Q:i think i messed up the wiring to my headunit. its not the wiring going into the headunit, there is no power from the wires. how much should it cost to get the wires checked out and fixed somewhere?

If your talking about the power wire the feeds the radio on the eclipse then you need to check both fuses. On the eclipse they put an in line fuse before the fuse box and one at the fuse box and either one could be blown. If neither one is blown then you do have a break in the wire. does not half to be cut but it can be an internal break. If i was you and the fuses are not blown i would run your own wire from the battery with an in line fuse to your radio. This happened to me so that's how i know about the two fuses. hope this helps.

You can use the 10/3 wire, but you wire it so that the black and the white are hot wires and the ground is the neutral. Of course you won't have the bare ground to use as a ground anymore, so if you want it wired with a bare ground to the cabinet, you will need to run a separate bare ground. Or get different wire with a red a black a white and a bare ground. Red and black will be hot, white will be neutral and bare ground will be ground.
