- Q: How often is the average for replacing living room or bedroom carpet, I know it depends on the traffic, etc but just wondering averages and when is it time to replace instead of having it cleaned
- 10 years is the average life span of carpet. Lots of variables there such as traffic, pet stains etc. when it wears out or uglies out is when its time to replace it.
- Q: Well ,I am staying in san jose.I wanted to buy a 5'x 8' rug for my living room.My budget is $130 -$180.I'm looking for easy maintainance, good looking, easy cleaning. Also, when i sit on rug,the rug should not go down for 1 inch- 2inch1 uld u suggest where to buy in bay area. Can i buy JC Penny.?2.Also,what type of material should i buy?3.What are all the factors should i think in mind before buying it?Thanks
- Most rugs are pretty low maintenence - just vaccuum.
- Q: which household carpet is better, polypropylene or acrylic?
- acrylic is better, because the color of polypropylene will change over a period of time, and the line is crispy.
- Q: What to do if the carpet is dirty?
- Just need to dry cleaning
- Q: Is there a way to effectively clean my carpet without buying any special equipment? I live in an apartment building and the carpet here is very dense. Is there a way to get rid of spots and things stuck to the floor? I wouldn't want to spend more than twenty dollars on this. Can anyone help?
- Okay, I had this exact dilemma a few years ago. Buy a big jug of windex window cleaner, even off brand is fine. Take a regular sponge mop and spray the floor with windex and scrub like crazy with the mop. Then when its completely dry vacuum. Simple as that!
- Q: Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?
- Plain Arm and Hammer baking Soda works just fine. Sprinkle let it set a few hrs and vacuum it up (overnight is best if you can wait). I do not use the powdered form of carpet fresheners I use the spray foams. They smell good and do not leave the residue in the carpets and are safe around children and pets. Normally I buy them at walmart or the Family Dollar where they are even cheaper and have off brands.
- Q: I cannot for the life of me find the rugs in sims 2. I've seen some other answers here that say things like quot;decorations, rugs, put it on the floor.quot; well obviously if I am having to ask, I'm not able to follow those instructions as easily as you. Call me retarded or what you want, but all I see under decorations is plants, sculptures, wall hangings, mirrors, and curtains. So if someone could give me a real answer instead of some sarcastic bs, that would be great. Thx.
- I just opened my game to see where the rugs were and they are here: Buy Mode Decorative Under Decorative as you already said there are the sub-categories plants, sculptures, wall hangings, mirrors, curtains, then rugs, then an icon that has 3 little buttons that is the sub-category miscellaneous, then next to that an icon that looks like a figure 8 on its side that represents the sub-category 'All'. Can you see MISCELLANEOUS and ALL? It is possible that the sub-category 'rugs' only appeared after I installed a certain expansion pack. I'm not sure as it's nearly 5 years since I just had the original game on its own. But if that is the case, and 'rugs' only got its own icon sub-category after EA released certain expansion packs, then I would guess that if you have the base game with no expansions rugs would either show up under DecorativeMiscellaneous or DecorativeAll. There are only 2 or 3 rugs that I can say for certain came with the base game- this is maybe why they didn't originally have their own sub-category, would hardly have been worth it for only a couple of items. And custom rugs will nearly always show up under DecorativeMiscellaneous. This is because they are hardly ever cloned from Maxis rugs, which are very boring.
- Q: What if the carpet is dirty?
- B. carpet stains and dirt classification:A. water-based and dry stains, dirtMost of carpet stains are water-based and dry substances, including dust, sand, starch, soft drinks, tea, fruit juice stains, dirt accounted for about 80%-85%, especially for fine dust, life and work off, mostly adhere to the carpet surface. Larger dirt particles fall into the supporting layer.B. oil base stains, dirt (which includes moving and vegetable oils, cosmetics, shoe polish, ballpoint pens, oils, etc.).C. protein base stains, dirt (which includes blood, vomiting, urine, food products), these two types of stains, dirt, accounting for about 15/20%.
- Q: My parents bought a 5 x 7 area rug about 20 years ago, at K-Mart or somewhere abouts, and bequeathed it to me when I moved out. The colors are still really nice, but the problem is- and I suspect this has always been the case- its a bear to get clean. I don't mind a few spots, but it collects hair like mad. Its a very tight-woven rug, with no long strands. I run my Dirt Devil upright over it usually three or four times, and nothing budges. Is there a vacuum cleaner that is powerful enough to disentange hair from the carpet fibers? I really don't want to throw it out or store it, but I can't afford to have it professionally cleaned, at $100 a go, every month.
- When I clean my area rugs I take them out to the driveway and spray them off with the hose. Mix some laundry detergent with water and scrub it with a brush, then spray it off really good again. The only downfall here is you have to let it dry outside in the sun, so this is best to do in the summer! And, unfortunately, if you do this often the rug will fade.
- Q: Yes... i have been staining a part of my wood closet doors. While this has happened... i had accidentally gotten a few small spots of stain on the carpet. Does anyone know how to get these out?
- I just had to remove oil based paint from clothes from a vandalism and I used rubbing alcohol. The paint had been dried for a couple of weeks and did come out of some things but not others. I would try pouring rubbing alcohol on it and blot it up with some old towels. Let it sit long enough to break up the stain but if its fresh it should come out. Lighter fluid is also supposed to work.
