- Q:Does microfiber start to turn rough and pill? I've had a microfiber sofa for about a month and its starting to feel grainy and pill like a sweater would, I can't imagine what it will look and feel like 6 months from now. I spoke to the store and they say they can change the fabric but will not guarantee it won't just happen again. Is this normal or did the store sell me something that is not really microfiber. The label says the covering is 100% polyester, is that what all microfiber sofas say? The showroom sofa was nice and soft not like mine at all. I was sold a microfiber sofa and I have a feeling its really not. Can someone please let me know if its is normal for this to happen before I goes nuts on the store, like I said I've only had then sofa for a month. Thanks.
- Microfiber is just a fancy word for polyester - a recent way to erase the image of the polyester suit from the 70s. The only thing that matters is the fact that you are not satisfied with the quality of the fabric so let the store bend over backwards to please you. I have microfiber sheets that are not supposed to pill - but they do, mainly by the foot area.
- Q:Is this material a good choice? Can I prevent the marks it leaves after rubbing your hands on it? I heard it's good to clean, but I think that's the only advantage.
- This material is extremely durable, wears well, and cleans very easily and very well. It's a great choice if you have children or pets or are in the habit of eating/drinking on your sofa and expect the occasional spill. Usually a damp cloth works but even grimy and matted fabric can be cleaned up with the help of some fabric cleaner. The hand marking is inevitable because the material has a pile. There is no way to prevent this. Agreed it's not the best look but you can get rid of it by brushing the pile in one direction then look but don't touch!

- I have a white microfiber sofa that cost $5,000. (yes white. yes $5,000). Also, two dogs and a cat. It's washable if you get a steam cleaner. The salespeople imply that you can just use a damp sponge to remove stains. This is no more or less true than any other fabric. They also tell you to not use a steam cleaner because it ruins the grain or something. All I can say is it ain't a miracle fabric. It gets dirty and then, over time, it gets really dirty, just like all furniture, and it needs to be cleaned. Given the cost I lived in hell with my couch for several years. My husband purchased it and I was on pins and needles just sitting on the darn thing. Well, the dog ate some bacon grease and I came home from work to bacon vomit all over the couch. Called a professional a few days later and he said it was too late, I should have called him immediately. That's when I just steamed it myself and it's perfectly fine and I don't worry about it anymore. Also, I have micro fiber footstools and I take the covers off and throw them in the wash. No problem. However, it's been five years and it all looks a little worn because it is worn. Don't pay more because you think it's indestructible. Buy it because it looks nice or you like the way it feels. In the end, it's just another fabric.

- I've purchased several sofas and sectionals from Z Gallerie (they carry a variety of brands) and I've always had great luck with them. You might want to check them out. Their prices are fairly reasonably for the quality and they tend to last longer than most which gives you greater value in the long run. In general, avoid sofas and sectionals that have sewn-in cushions. Since you cannot flip and rotate the cushions you cannot maximize their life. How often does anyone actually sit in the middle of the sofa, right? A good salesperson will be willing to unzip the cushions and show you the construction going on inside. I recommend foam cushions that are wrapped in a blanket of down for more comfort and loft; also the down blanket can be [somewhat] fluffed.

- Futon's are not comfortable... I know from experience especially if you plan on using it everyday after a short while... ouch on your back. Hide-a-bed... hmmmm. Ugly looking I think. I like sofa beds. Multi purpose. Your sheets and duvet hide-a-way and when you have guests they just can't see all your bedding business. Definately sofa bed!

- Finn.no is probably the largest used items web shop. OKorder hasn't made many inroads in Norway yet. The other option would be Fretex, but not as a web site. If you live in a reasonably sized town there probably is a fretex shop that does furniture. Of course you might be able to stretch to new, the wonderful Ikea isn't that silly as far as prices go. Be prepared though some of the taste is shocking!

- I love the first one, it looks comfortable and homely. The second is too stylish, and you will have to make sure your whole room is decorated to fit.. By the way, white is a very sensitive colour.

- I have brown leather and I use Armor All or a leather lotion from the shoe store. You can go to Footlocker or any athletic shoe store and get some leather shoe cleaner and use it with a soft cloth. Works like magic and helps condition the leather at the same time.

- There is really no way to tell which cat poop. You just have to catch them in the act and even with that you are not sure if that cat is the one that poop on your sofa the first time.
