- You can do all of the above, OR, take a glue gun, flip the rug over, do some squiggles of hot glue on the back of the rug (alllll over the back) and let it dry (you didnt think I was gonna say glue it to the carpet, did you?) The squiggles will anchor it and it wont slip when you walk across it.

- Depends on the exact backing on the rug you want to put down. A lot of backings can ruin wood floors.. Some will scratch them up, some will permanently discolor the wood.. If your using it just as a area rub, there are special thin mats that you place under the rug and they stay in place without having to staple them down, If your going wall to wall then I d suggest a padding to help stop this.. - I think that an area rug on top of carpet looks nice. In my living room, I have an area rug on top of my carpet and it looks good. If you have sheer green drapes, I think you should get a muted brown rug.
- Q:So in one room of my house, the carpet is ****** up. Long story short bleach stains were better than blood stains, so one corner is all discolored while other areas have Kool Aid stains or just dirty. The room is roughly 15'x15', so around 225 sqft. - Removing glue-down or any carpet does not require any special skill, only some amount of strength and the proper tools. You will need a good utility knife with a couple of packs of sturdy replacement blades. You can use the knife to cut thru the carpet, making it into approx 3x3' or 4x4' sections. Then just start pulling the carpet up. Cut one section at a time, remove it then proceed to the next. If any foam is left stuck to the floor, you only need to remove the thick sections. A small amount can be left stuck to the floor since the new carpet and pad, will cover this. You can use a stiff 3-4 wide putty knife to scrape off the foam that's left behind or rent or buy a scraping tool, on a long pole to do the job. I have done it with just a putty knife. Then get some estimates for new carpet and installation. Home D and Lowes offer almost free install.

- Rugs, like lumber are dimensional. They can run in sizes from 7 foot 6 inches to 8foot on one side to 11 ft 6 inches on the long side. They are not always a true 8 foot by 12 foot. - There are a lot of ways to make a small rug. An easy ways to start with a piece of nylon carpet. If you are doing a small rug about 18 x 27get a carpet sample at a carpet for about $1. Go a craft store and get permeate markers of the colors you want and just color the carpet. Markers and the dye used to color carpet are about the same thing. You can also get pieces of carpet, cut to shape and glue together. You can also braid cloth together to make a braided rug. There are lots of craft books to show you how.
