Q:I'm getting ready to put new frieze carpet (similar to a shaggy carpet). I have a dyson vacume cleaner I have heard that it doesnt vacume that well on frieze carpet. Is that true? Is that type of carpet durable? Thanks for your feedback.

I can't answer for the dyson question, but I have frieze carpet in my house and love it. the husband wanted full blown shag and I compromised (I wanted berber) any way, it is durable, tough and does not mat.really happy with it and we have it in the highest traffic areas of our house - the hallway and stairs as well as the master bathrooms. every time I vacuum, it looks just like it did the day they put it in. I have a kirby and vacuuming it is a breeze. I have not had any issues other than not being able to find earrings in the carpet if I drop them. It cleans beautifully as well.

Q:We have a really big area rug, and it keeps getting these huge...fold crease bulges in the same exact area...how the heck do you get rid of these for good?

Do you have a thick carpet pad beneath it? A good carpet pad will prevent a rug from creeping and creasing. Rotating the rug periodically will also help.

Q:Is the office good with carpet or floor tile?

The office space must be solemn and comfortable. So it is better to use tiles, like an office site, and easy to take care of.

Q:theres a burn mark on my carpet about the size of a silver dollar and i want to try and replace it whats the best way to go about it?

Do you have any spare carpet from when they installed the carpet? You can cut a small section out and match it to the spare carpet, then use carpet tape to reapply it. Or you could cut a small piece out of the back of a closet and use it to patch. It would be a lot easier to just put a nice throw rug over the burn mark though.

Q:I want to redo my basement but getting new carpet is so expensive! Right now I have a really ugly green carpet with red and light yellowish squares. My kids want to make it in to a more loungey basement so the carpet is gonna be really hard to work with. Is there a much cheaper alternative to carpet or even any ideas as to how we can blend it in or make it work? We really dont want to use the colors in the carpet for anything in the basement. The basement is very very big so even semi-cheap things might be expensive. Thank you!

Unless you install some thing yourself such as carpet squares , laminate ,vinyl tile squares, on the average when you have some one install flooring, carpet is one of the cheapest flooring materials. So to keep costs in check pick some thing you can do and for a basement carpet of some kind is the warmest. So consider carpet squares and do it yourself. I would either take it to an auto upholstery shop, or do it myself. JCWhitney has carpets for many cars, check and see if they have one for your car. It should be molded to fit your floor pan. Do not buy a generic, one size fits all kit. The installation is easy if you can remove the front seats and a few trim panels.

Q:Construction technology of the linking of floor tile and carpet

There are several ways: there is a very small T-shaped mound layer, find a careful worker to instal it at the edge of the tile, and then press the carpet into the T-shaped mound layer, it also should be done carefully, the carpet needs to be cut exactly, because it will come out if cut smaller. The second one is the direct pressure method, the carpet side closer to tiles should be rolled like clothes, or it will have rough selvedge after a long time. exact size is very important for rolling, the carpet is better three mm or so lower than floor tiles after finished. it is ok to install carpet hook at the edge of tiles.

Q:As you can see from the lower half of the picture its slightly yellow. There are afew yellows spots(3-4 1'x1') through out the rug. How would I go about cleaning/reversing the effects?THANKS!

That depends on what the stains are from. If they are from food, some oxygen type cleaners can lighten them, If they are from bleeding of the dyes in the rug colors (which can happen with some inexpensive wool oriental type carpets), there is not much you can do. If it is pet stains, a good professional cleaning company can often remove them. I have owned a lot of oriental carpets and I highly recommend finding a professional cleaner who specializes in cleaning them. It usually costs about $100 to have an 8 x 11 carpet cleaned, but they can make them look (and smell) like new. I don t think you should try to clean the rug with any water based cleaners or shampooing. Some one I know had a rug very much like yours and when they tried to damp shampoo it all of the red color bled into the white areas and ruined it.
