- Q:I want to shut it inside a small room, but will it not suffocate ? Which part of the gen set should be moved out of the room ?
- This is not a good idea. This generator is more than just loud, it poses a serious health and safety threat. The exhaust gasses from the generator have to be vented to the outside or the carbon monoxide they contain will kill you. Diesel fuel is a fire hazard and without proper fireproofing you will end up with a serious fire. Finally, the generator has to be provided with a separate supply of outside air both to ventilate the space to prevent overheating and to supply air for the engine.
- Q:A friend and I have been tossing around ideas about the future of the human race, and are coming more and more to the conclusion that we're all going to hell in a handbasket.Virtually ALL religious writings make reference to pockets of humans living past Armageddon even though civilization itself is pretty much gone. Humans will continue on the level we were on several hundred years ago, in small farming communities, doing most work by hand. The problem is to survive long enough to establish such communities.MRE's and other long-life foods are fine, but pretty expensive. If you're talking about feeding hundreds or thousands of people for several years, we have to get back to something like dried beans and rice. The government does it. How?What is the best way to store grains and beans? Metal drums rust. Plastic drums are succesptible to rodents. Are silo's necessary? If so, what is the LONGEST rice and beans will last? Years? A decade? What do you think?
- Well, if you're serious about it, you only need the rice and beans for a year or two. You need seeds, though, and a good book on farming. You and your friend can get a pretty good farm going on your own and grow more food than you need by yourselves while you wait for others to join you. You should look up sustainable farming and research into what the Native Americans were doing before we got here. There's no sense in starting up a new civilization with the same old bad practices of the one that just fell. You could also get some books on edible plants in your area and the areas around it. Global warming and pollution may kill off a lot of the plant life, but there will always be the perfectly edible dandelion. Anything that kills off all the plants is also going to kill you, so you might as well know how to supplement your diet with fresh stuff. With your surfeit of food in the new landscape, you'll probably want to invest in walls and maybe guns. For storage, you could always go old-fashioned. The link below has a lot of great resources for the pre-Industrial Revolution minded, but it also tells you how to make storage bins. You could also look up bell-shaped storage pits, which are another favorite method of storage, and one that was remarkably effective. Heh, I've thought about this a lot, too. Can I join your group if disaster finally falls?
- Q:Can any anyone help me with this. The generator is a brushless, air-cooled diesel generator without AVR. It is kinda old and it's made from Japan. The manufacturer is Yanmar.
- All you need is a transformer to boost the low AC voltage up to 110 or 120 volts (for USA and Canada) or 220-240 for other countries. You need to know what voltage and current the generator does produce, and if it isn't specified on a plate on the generator, you will need a multimeter. You could probably get an inexpensive one at a hardware store. Then you need to hunt for a suitable transformer. It not only has to have the right input and output voltage ratings, but also the current rating that the generator can put out. Keep in mind that V1xA1 V2xA2. So, for example, if the generator puts out 60 volts at 10 amps, you would get 120 volts at 5 amps with a 1:2 coil ratio. Both input and output coils have to be rated for at least the amps in the equation, but the rating can be higher.
- Q:I'm doing research on trains and Google isn't helping, it's giving me everything but what I need so maybe I'm not posing/wording the question properly or something but a friend told me about this so hopefully I can find the answer.
- Try gallons per mile
- Q:I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel that sits in my yard. It ran at one time, but has been driven so little that it now no longer starts. Had this problem one time before and paid someone to fix it. They replace the fuel pump to get it started again. Other issues are lost title, back left tire seems locked, and busted windshield.I hate to just trash this car and wonder how difficult would it be to turn the motor into a backup power generator for my house? Is it feasible? One of our sister companies at work has a diesel engine that acts as a backup power for their computer room, so I wondered if I could possible do the same for my home.Any suggestions?
- Turn Car Into Generator
- Q:I have to calculate the fuel consumption of a diesel generator given its HP or KVA
- Go to some diesel engine websites. They should have the fuel consumption in terms of brake horsepower hours.
- Q:What is the most important parameter of diesel generator?
- rated power factor (COS): refers to the motor rated power factor.
- Q:I need a generator that will power alot of stuff, preferably cheap as possible, or any other power source of that kind.it will need to power about 5 normal appliances and a 600w bulbany ideas
- Cheap as possible - go Chinese if you want to use it once a year and don't care if it goes paf at any time. Honda makes some good units if you want quality and back up. You need to add up the power draw of your five normal applications and your 600w lighting load. Add 25% and the unit will be adequate. If your appliances have induction motors you will have to have at least three times the rated power of the motor(s) to get them to start safely. If you need more than 3000 watts of constant power you should consider diesel, for longevity go for slow speed i.e.1500 or 1800 rpm engine speed. Price will range from $400 for a 2500w Chinese thingy up to at least $14,000 for a fully enclosed automatic 12KvA super silenced slow speed diesel unit on a slide. Running costs get high with the bigger petrol units. Inverters are good, but you will still have to generate power some how for the batteries - wind, water, solar, generator etc. Will be more expensive to set up but will be better long term for a cabin or similar. I'll tack on a couple of links below. Good luck.
- Q:avr is automatic voltage regulator for power generators
- If you mean the build-in pcb of a fuel/diesel generator which build-up voltage initially and then keep it stable under any load, then read this: First you need to see your generator minimum requirements to determine specs of AVR. You will probably found a label on generator with those Information: Ex. volt (maximum excitation voltage) Ex. amp (maximum excitation amperage) Your AVR output must exceed those specs. If generator is brushless type in most cases it does. Also input voltage of AVR must be the same as output of generator (ex. 110V110V, 220V220V). If generator is triple phase then you can do the same (ex. 380V380V, 440V440V) but if generator have output in star formation then you can use node for a smaller voltage of AVR (ex. 380V220V, 440V253V). If generator work in parallel operation (usually marine main generators does) then things get complicated. In this case AVR is good to support current transformer to make generator more elastic under load fluctuations and match other generators in the same circuit.
