- Q: We have a 2008 grizzly 700...Lately when we run the 4-wheeler there is a ticking like noise (as is something were loose). I have been told by a few people that it sounds like the valves need adjusting. Does that sound like what it is? Will it cause any damage to the 4-wheeler if we ride it before we get a chance to adjust the valves?
- They are correct. Well almost. The Rockers are what can be adjusted. They are too far away from the valve and are starting to hammer on them instead of just moving them. You will not cause immediate damage by riding it but you could wear out the rocker completely and drop a valve into the engine which would be very costly. Best to get it repaired soon. Make sure they install new rockers and springs. The main cause for this is poor oil maintenance or poor grade of oil being used. Always use a GOOD synthetic oil and your motor will last 10 times as long

- a MOV consist of electrical motor, actuator and valve. the motor is driven by electric and its shaft is coupled to valve; therefore rotating motor shaft develop forward or backward movement of the valve thru gear mechanism. The actuator is controlling the ON or OFF, rotate to LEFT or RIGHT of the electrical motor; the actuator can be set base on process control (i.e level, flow, pressure etc). when rotating of the motor is controlled, so it does the valve opening.
- Q: i have a zone that - when turnd on by timer or manually only about 1 foot of spray comes out of sprinkler heads (used to wk fine). When i turn the ittle screw on top of valve (its about the size of a dime) water pressure comes up and wks fine - only water leaks at screw and when zone comes on next time NO pressure??? metal valves were just replaces about 1 yr ago.
- It's hard to say exactly what's wrong without knowing what type of valves you have since different valves have different components. In any case, I'd start by checking that the bleed screw and/or handle (depending on type) and that the flow control screw or handle (again depends on what make/model you have) to make sure they are in good condition and properly set. Be careful when turning these screws or handles don't force them past the normal stopping points. If that all checks out, there may be some dirt or debris stuck in the valve that's not allowing the diaphragm to open all the way.
- Q: Also, Is a pneumatic control valve an ATC or an ATO; is it a FO or FC valve?
- THere are a large number of types of valves; ball, gate, globe, needle, etfc. I suggest you look up valves on wikipedia. ATO = air to open; the valve has a pneumatic operator with a spring returning it to closed when the air pressure is removed ATC is the reverse FO = fail open; if the actuator fails the valve will be open. Actuators are made ATO, ATC, and air to move either way [no spring]. The latter would be your FLP. Control valves, by which I mean a proportioning valve or valve with a variable open area, with a 3-15 psi control input, are usually ATO.

- Honestly, vaseline will screw up your valves over long uses as the viscosity of the material will make your valves stick harder. Baby oil has minerals in it that will eventually build up on the valves and start corroding it. The best lubricant you can use is saliva because it will not create build up. It is cheap and effective but not recommendable. I remember my valves were stuck right before a show, but I spit on them and they worked fine. Its a short term solution, but go out and buy some valve oil.
- Q: My husband just found out that one of the heart valves is 100% blocked and the other 3 are 90% or more blocked . He is 78 years old he Is nearly non mobile. What kind of treatment would you suggest?
- A heart valve can't be 100% blocked. The heart simply couldn't function. On the other hand, coronary arteries can be blocked as you described. Normally, 4 vessel disease is treated with bypass surgery. In a high risk patient, angioplasty might be an option. However, if he is not having cardiac symptoms , or if he is thought to be TOO high risk, the option is medical treatment. Sit down for a talk with his cardiologist.
- Q: My car (RWD) has vacuum leak and has the code PO171/PO174. I find some engine oil at the bolt well of the valve cover on the bank 2 side. Can the vacuum leak come from the valve cover? What is the main function of the valve cover? Thanks.
- Valves and the cam or rocker arm assemblies on top of the cylinder heads are lubricated by engine oil that is pumped or splashes up from the crankcase. Valve covers just contain the oil and keep dirt out of the engine. Vacuum comes from the intake manifold, and is routed to various locations through small flexible rubber hoses. A vacuum leak is probably from one of those small rubber hoses that has cracked or come loose.
- Q: I have a rainbird Sprinkler system. One of the zones the sprinklers do not pop up. Someone said maybe the valve is stuck closed from the winter. How do you open and close the valve manually to loosen it back up. and where would this valve be located in the little green junction box near where the zone starts????
- they dont really stick from the winter. i would say if the valve has a problem the diaphram needs replacing on the inside of it. ( all you have to do is find the same kind of valve and take the old parts out of the valve and replace them, the top, and the solenoid with the new valve's parts. they can be anywhere in your yard. ive even found the valve boxes buried under bushes. some installers don't put them in boxes, they just bury the valves. if you know where any of the green boxes are open the lids and see what's inside. sometimes more than one valve will be in a box. turn the solenoid on the valve. ( this will be the peice that the wire are connected to on the valve. dont turn the solenoid too much or it will come out. just a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn or so maybe a little more or less. and when you find the valve that turns on the zone 8 that is not working that is the valve for that section. you may even be able to hear the valve trying to come on when the timer shows it is running. if not, then check for power at the valve. if no power. there is a short, bad connection, or bad module in the timer. if power- replace just the solenoid first. if that doesnt work rebuild the valve. if you have no luck finding the box with zone 8 in it then try a few tips. get a screwdriver and poke around where some other valve boxes are. they may be close together. use a wire locator or hire a professional to locate the valve and show you how to repair it. to manually open and close the valve- open upthe solenoid like i said. or use the bleeder if the valve has one.
