If you can narrow down the location to being from the actual water pump and not a line, It would be the seal in the water pump. The only option is to replace the water pump.

Q:A mechanic replaced my timing and other belts on my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cylinder today but not water pump. He said the water pump looked good. All the other mechanics I talked to told me they had to replace the water pump. This mechanic said the belts were not connected to the water pump in this car and therefore the water pump was ok. The car has about 100500 miles on it. Is this bad or should I call him back and ask him why he didn't change the water pump. I don't want to pay more later.

A lot of times, it's done as a preventive measure. The logic behind it is that the water pump is driven by the timing belt so if you are going to be replacing the timing belt ( a time consuming job on many different engines ), you may as well do the water pump at the same time.

Step 1. Drain the anitifreeze, the fluids in the radiator, you will find a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Dont trash this fluid as its harmful to the environment or reuse the fluid. 2. Disconnect the radiator hoses to the radiator and to the water pump. 3. Remove the radiator and fan shroud and transmission lines, it unbolts from the top. 4. Remove the bolts from the fan, remove the fan. 5. Loosen the altenator, A/C and power steeering pump enough to remove the belts. 6.Remove the 4 bolts holding the water pump to the engine, remove the water pump. 7. Let the water dry and clean where the water pump was as you will need a clean dry surface to apply the gaskets to. 8. Put the 4 bolts in the new water pump, put the gaskets on the toward engine side on the four bolts and install the new water pump. I dont know what the torque specs are, just dont over tighten and enough to break off a bolt. 9. Put the belts back on and tighten, reinstall the fan, the radiator and fan shroud and reinstall the hoses. Reinstall the transmission lines. Fill the radiator with anitifreez water mixture. 10. Start up the engine and allow the engine to warm up, keep the radiator cap off to detect the fill level. Fill when warm to about 1/2 inch to the top is a good level/Reinstall the cap. Finish

If it's Japanese, every 90,000 miles. If American, every 60,000 miles. Just recently changed belt and water pump on my Honda for $400 at an independent. Dealer is more expensive.

I checked online and saw Ford Escort water pump for less than $50. But you can always call local auto parts store like Autozone or Pep Boys to get their cost. Allow up to $100 for water pump. Costs for labor are obviously expensive, too. That's what the costs of $300 that some are saying. Consider $100 for pump and $200 for labor. If they actually think that the water pump would cost $300, they forgot that we're talking about an ESCORT!! Not a Lexus or BMW.

Q:We use this water pump for about 2 years, and in the last week the circuit breaker trip when we turn on the pump. What should I check first for the problem?

When the pump motor starts, it engages a start winding that can draw enough current tripping the breaker in question. I would recommend that you change the breaker. It may have become weak after years of operation of said pump. It is a very good idea to dedicate a breaker for this motor. This configuration will insure that there's not another appliance in the circuit that may cause this problem of overloading said breaker when a limit switch closes to turn on the pump. if you have 100,000 miles on it, and haven't changed the timing belt, CHANGE IT NOW. Recommended change at 100,000 miles. Mine broke at 104,000, towing was $125, and then cost of repairs. Also recommend changing seals on xmission at same time.

Must be connected, in the low-end water pipe, the valve is also called the bottom valve is to prevent the intrusion of water, at the same time, but also to ensure the pump again next time when starting the pump and piping in enough water to prevent idling.
