Q: Had my car in to the shop this morning, it's a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. The water pump and radiator need to be replaced, and they said they can do it for $380. Is this a reasonable price? Also, if I don't get them fixed right away, am I risking a lot of permanent damage to the engine?
that's not a bad price at all, considering the radiator is $150 or so by itself, and $50 or $60 for the water pump. So over $200 worth of parts, leaving roughly $180 for labor, not bad at all. Possible engine damage, yeah, lots of it. Blown head gasket is the most likely, a $500 repair.
Q: Pump suction and pressure side road why should vacuum table and pressure gauge, and what role they have?
The vacuum meter is used to measure the vacuum degree of the water pump before the water pump pumping, and to a certain degree of vacuum, the water can be sucked into the upward pressure position of the pump.A pressure gauge is used to indicate that the pumping is pressure in the pipe. The size of the pressure is related to the lift head, pipe diameter, atmospheric pressure and so on.
Q: I'm trying to convince my dad to get a 1984 Porsche 944 for $900. However, the car need a new water pump and I was wondering how much it would be to get the part installed at a shop. What would be a good estimate as I'm planning on going to more than one place. So included with the price of the part and installation is this a good deal? And is the car reliable?

Q: How much would a water pump cost for a 1991 cadillac deville
Water pumps are cheap.. its the install time and or labor cost to do it that is pricey
Q: I need a water pump gasket for my mustang water pump. What can I use if I have no gasket material?
I wouldn't use anything except what was required for that pump installation because I wouldn't want to have to go back and do the whole job a second time if the pump leaks around the gasket area. A new gasket should come with a new pump. If not go back to a quality auto parts store and get a gasket. I'm not sure I'd trust the squeeze on gasket silicone in place of a gasket and I'd get Permatex gasket sealer to use with the new gasket on all surfaces before I reinstalled the pump. It's worth taking your time to do it right. Make sure there's no antifreeze coolant oozing onto the metal sealing surfaces, because the gasket won't seal unless the surfaces are clean and dry (been there, done that).
Q: How long should it take a mechanic to replace a water pump on a 96 dodge intrepid ES with a 3.5L engine? I was given a estimate of 6 hours does it really take that long? at 100.00 a hour I'm not sure my car is worth fixing
YES! It's driven by the timing belt so make sure they replace that too! edit: everything bill b said is true.....but he's thinking of the 2.7 motor. not the 3.5. Thank you. Your welcome. The labor rate in my shop is $95.00 an hour. Most all basic jobs are rated into a labor time data log by auto manufactuers and used world wide! These labor times stand up in a court of law!!! If it calls for 6.0 hours of labor, and you know I charge $95 an hour, that's $570 plus parts. Some shops charge less per hour and use cheap parts and leave bolts out and your constantly having problems. Some try to charge 8.0 hours for a 6.0 job just to rip you off. Some shops never worked on one and some shops are on there 3rd set of special 3.5 cam holders for doing water pumps and timing belts if you know what I mean!! Always get on the phone and shop around. Call the dealer and ask for the labor time for a particular job if you feel the need to.
Q: Where can I get a solar powered water pump for a sprinker? I want the pump to pull water out of a river next to my yard and water my garden and lawn.
Solar catalog. You will need a whole system, to collect the solar energy in the day and use battery's at night to run the pump,as you would not want to run the sprinkler in the sun light. Also think of elevator storage of the water. the head pressure will help the pump. If you have access to a river think hydro power, also, for cloudy days. Water turbines to generate electric, place under the surface. Get thinking man.
Q: I had high-pitch noise coming from my engine; it was coming from the belt area. I change the belts but the noise is still happening. After doing some research, I noticed that the noise is coming from the Water pump bearings. I installed this water pump Last year and the warranty is expired on it. A friend told me that if a bearing goes bad on a Water pump, then I should flush the cooling system because it leaves metal shavings into the engine. Is this true? I already flushed my cooling system at the mechanic (he has a special machine) about 2 weeks ago. Is it necessary to do another flush because of bad Water Pump bearings?
I think the more pertinent question is why your water pump bearings went bad after only two years. It is very likely that the belts were put on waaaaaay too tight- this can cause premature bearing wear. You can get metal shavings in your cooling system from a bad water pump bearing, and any good mechanic will flush the system when they replace the water pump. When you replace your belts, a good rule of thumb is the thumb rule. Push down on the belt with your thumb using moderate pressure. It should give no more than the width of your thumb. Good luck.
Q: I would like to know some details about water pumping (ie. coca cola pumping water out of india) i just wanted to know some sort of prosedure like do they dig a hole and pump or what? I can't find any useful other information when i search it all that it says is that they quot;pumped waterbut nothing more. Thank you =)
Usually they look for an underwater spring or reservoir, then they drill or dig into it. From there, they either instal a pump or use it as a well. As for how it works, refer to water pressure.
Q: HelloI am building a small budget underground room. On top of a very waterproof and airtight (besides vents) building, and running a dehumidifer inside, I would like to install a pump underneatth the foundation to suck out water from the soil surronding the building but I'm not sure what kind of pump would be best? Also how would b e the best way to set this up?
What you want is called a sump pump. Most have a system built into them that is triggered by rising water. The idea is to have a hole beneath that allows the inevitable water that will collect a place to go, then when a certain amount gets in the hole, the sump pump comes on and pumps it out to wherever you have the hose or pipes ran to. Being underground, good luck keeping the humidity level down. It won't be easy, and much depends on where your natural water table is, and what it is during rains. Someone in your area might know all that, I don't.
