- Q: I just noticed a slight leak from my water pump. About the size of my fist. I called one mechanic and was told the 2001 BMW Z3's water pump seals are tight and do not leak with the car is running (engine is hot) but once the car cools the water pump seals expand resulting in the small leak, that I shouldn't worry about it unless it leaks more, the engine over-heats, or dash light turns on. The BMW said I should have the water pump replaced but he may have just said that to make a repair sale. Anyone out there know the truth?

- Q: I Have a 1982 Suzuki DT8 Outboard motor, i rebuilt the water pup, new impeller, wear plate, all that. This is the first time iv run it in a barrel, it wont pump water now. But here is the thing, when i take the inspection cover off(the little round cover that lets you acces the shift linkage), and i run the motor, it will pump water. i noticed that wile i have that cover off all the exhaust comes out that hole and not out the bottom, is the exhaust getting sucked in the pump and stopping it from circulating water?
- I have the same problem, as soon as the inspection cover is off it pumps. The service guy mentioned a dodgy head gasket allowing it to pressurize the shaft cavity. Im not sure about this. I wondered about the copper / brass out feed line being not seated in the rubber grommet? Any ideas welcome.
- Q: I own a Camaro 1995 V6 3.4L automatic, it was diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and I was going to take it in on Saturday 3/1/08. But this morning I drove it and it seem that the car is losing power the RPM goes all up to 4-5 thousand to make a speed change. The car seems to stall like if it gets stuck the RPM goes up and eventually the next speed kicks in. I do know that the car started leaking water/coolant more than before after that little drive in the morning.The car is very well kept oil change is always on time .I always make sure that the water and the oil is level. transmission fluids are clean. - Q: I have a 1998 pontiac grand prix yesterday I started leaking anti-freeze so we ( me, dad, bf) checked and came up w/ h2o pump, all the classic signs. so $51 latter started her up and wouldnt you know the same thing. anyone have any tips????
- yep........... your car has a 3100 or 3800 engine.... more than likley the intake gaskets are bad... take it to the shop and have it checked out..... this is a very common problem for these engines......dont listen to these other idiots they dont have a clue.....waterpump housing.....thats bullshiit

- Seems some one has already given you a quote and you just need some explaining as to the cost involved. First the cost of a new water pump compared to a rebuilt is very little, especially if you purchase from a DIY store,i.e.,AutoZone, Advanced, O'Reilly,etc...just pay the extra money for the new one, as it usually has the better warranty. The cooling system is the most important thing to consider if you want the engine to perform correctly and safely. You should also consider the rest of the cooling system....Thermostat, hose, anti-freeze, clamps.etc. These are often overlooked and can cause a new water pump repair to go South immmediately. Most complete cooling system repairs can go as high as 3-4 hundred dollars if you have to replace the fan clutch or the cooling fans for the radiator. So do consider paying a little extra for the overlooked repairs and save yourself a lot of headaches and money in the long run.
