- Q:The truck has 89k on it and i'm having the timing belt done this week; would it be wise to get the pump changed since it's in the same area, even though it's not leaking; for preventitive maintenance purposes, or is there life left in the pump? I don't want to take it back soon after if the pump does go out
- Water pump life is a direct function of proper maintenance, therefore there is no real answer to your question. At 89k you could certainly elect to replace the WP as long as the T-Belt is also being done, but it is purely a preventive maintenance item. Might save you a lot of money later, or it might not. Impossible to say. It will give you more peace of mind though.

- Q:How tight to a tighten down the bolts on a '86 volvo 240 water pump. The manual I bought doesn't say. The torque won't help me cause I don't have a torque wrench, so just general discription would help a lot. (I stripped the threads on a stud last time)
- the pump is held on with 6mm x 100 thread pitch nuts and bolts. the best tool to use will be a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and short extension with a 10 mm deep socket [6 point] these bolts are 12-15 ft bs. of torque if you snug bolts down evenly and use only moderate pressure as a final tighten you should be alright. after srarting all bolts let pump relax so the top seal is not crushed

- yes it can IF the car is running hot. id wanna see this happen. when you go to look at the car start it up an let it run til it starts to go past normal,once it goes up past normal you can be sure its the water pump not working,which when newer cars overheat they shut off.jus dont run it hot. id also wanna know that the car runs great. no telling how many times he's let it run hot an shut off like that
- Q:the water pump from the factory has an extra hole coming out the side its the smaller one on the end of this pic.
- This is your recirculating pump. If it is a marine pump, it will have a brass backed seal and no heater hose outlet. (have seen them in the casting, but no hole there) The only difference is the casting, as long as it was ordered for the boat, you should be OK. For got to ask, do you have a cabin heater in the boat?

- The okorder /... Every hardware store has them. You can get the part I think it is 400A that doesn't have the flapper included. I'm not crazy about fluidmaster flappers because they always leak on me after a very short while.
