Q:bullets are normally made out of lead...are there bullets that are completely steel?? (not plated)
Yes, mild steel has been used, especially in wartime when shortages of materials become problematic. The trouble with using them, though, is that they don't obturate the rifling well (plus the obvious thing that they're hard) so they tend not to shoot well, and they wear barrels quickly.
Q:How are steel coils inspected for defects after recoiling?
Steel coils are inspected for defects after recoiling through a thorough visual examination, which involves inspecting the surface for any visible defects such as scratches, dents, or cracks. Additionally, non-destructive testing techniques like ultrasonic or magnetic particle inspection may be used to identify any internal defects that are not visible to the naked eye.
Q:What material is strongest? Human bone, steel, or concrete?
Steel is used to shape and reinforce concrete. Steel is also used in cutting bones in surgery and repairing bone through use of steel pins and braces. So, the answer is most definitely steel. In answer to your watch question, the volume of concrete was greater than that of your watch. The question of large volume vs. small volume is an easy one. Ten tons of human bone would easily reduce a 1 lb block of concrete to powder. Likewise, ten tons of concrete would snap a steel bar like a toothpick. Your watch had much less volume than the concrete you dropped it on. Furthermore, with enough force, your watch would have made a hole in the concrete, but its acceleration was not enough to counter the impacting force of the solid concrete reinforced by the soil and clay below it.
Q:How are steel coils unloaded from a truck or ship?
Steel coils are typically unloaded from a truck or ship using specialized equipment such as cranes, forklifts, or coil lifters. The coils are carefully lifted off the truck or ship and then placed onto a designated area in the storage yard or warehouse using the appropriate machinery.
Q:I'm getting new strings on my dad's old acoustic guitar so I can learn how to play it and I'm wondering if I should get nylon or steel strings. Are there any major differences between the two aside from the nylon strings being easier on your fingers? Like do the Nylon strings sound different?
Steel strings sound much better as in brightness and tone. Nylon strings sound dull and don't hold tune well but are easier to press. You need to build calouses on your finger tips and using steel will do this, just take it easy until they form and stop when they start hurting moderately. When you put new strings on a guitar, it's very good to break them in by pulling on them from the neck upwards to stretch them out. If you don't, you will need to tune them much until they wear themselves in. Good luck and make some sweet music !!
Q:What are the different types of steel coil surface finish treatments?
There are several different types of steel coil surface finish treatments available, each serving a specific purpose and providing unique characteristics. Some common types include: 1. Hot Rolled: This is the most basic and common type of steel coil surface finish treatment. It involves heating the steel above its recrystallization temperature and then rolling it to achieve the desired thickness. This process results in a rough surface texture. 2. Cold Rolled: Unlike hot rolled, cold rolled steel coil undergoes a process where it is rolled at room temperature. This treatment produces a smoother surface finish with improved dimensional accuracy and tighter tolerances. 3. Galvanized: Galvanization is a process where a protective zinc coating is applied to the steel coil surface. This treatment not only enhances the appearance but also provides excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for outdoor applications. 4. Electro-galvanized: Similar to galvanized steel, electro-galvanized steel coil is coated with a zinc layer. However, the coating is applied through an electroplating process, resulting in a thinner and more controlled coating. 5. Pre-painted: Pre-painted steel coil surface finish treatment involves applying a layer of paint or other protective coating before the product is delivered to the customer. This treatment enhances the appearance and provides additional protection against corrosion. 6. Stainless Steel: Stainless steel coil surface finish treatment involves passivating the steel to remove any impurities or contaminants on the surface. This process improves the resistance to corrosion and gives the steel a clean and smooth appearance. 7. Embossed: Embossing is a surface finish treatment where a pattern or design is pressed into the steel coil surface. This treatment enhances the aesthetics of the product and can provide additional grip or texture depending on the specific design. 8. Brushed: Brushing is a treatment where a fine abrasive material is used to create a brushed pattern on the steel coil surface. This finish provides a unique texture and can help mask scratches or other imperfections. These are just some of the various types of steel coil surface finish treatments available. The choice of treatment depends on the specific requirements of the application, such as appearance, corrosion resistance, or functionality, and it is important to select the most appropriate treatment to ensure the desired outcome.
Q:What are the common quality issues with steel coils?
Common quality issues with steel coils include surface defects such as scratches, rust, or mill scale, dimensional deviations, coil breaks or bursts, edge wave, and coil set. Other issues may include variations in chemical composition, hardness, or tensile strength, as well as improper winding or packaging, which can lead to damage or deformation during transportation or storage.
Q:What is the difference between black steel pipes and galvanized steel pipes when used for water or gas, and why?
Just because two things are painted red doesn't mean that they're the same. You need to know what type of iron (if it really is iron, but doubtful) your black iron pipe is made from. Sometimes standard pipe used in commercial applications for plumbing is called black pipe by the contractors. This type of black pipe is usually A53. Pipes can come in many types of grades of steel. Is the pipe A500, A53, A106, etc? Each grade has slightly different chemical compositions that give the steel different mechanical characteristics. Also, pipe can come in different schedules (wall thicknesses) which does not change the outside diameter of the pipe. With an increase in wall thickness a pipe will become more rigid.
Q:If you combine stainless steel with gold, does that make stainless gold?
Stainless steel, I believe, was an actual trade name of a british cutlery company's knives, once the ability to create iron-chromium alloys was mastered. Stainless steel's main alloying agent that prevents it from rusting, is Chromium. The Chromium in the steel creates an protective layer (not unlike rust), which acts as a protectant for the rust-prone iron...keeping real rust away. I am no metallurgist, but I have not heard of gold being used as an alloying agent in common steels. I'm not even sure they would mix. Not all metals can be stirred together successfully. Even if gold could be used as an alloying agent for steel, it would need to be in such a small percentage, you would not end up with a metal that was gold in appearance...so it would still look like steel of some sort. The funny part is, gold is already stainless, and does not tarnish or rust as it is.
Q:it seems like the hardness of Stainless steel, i saw 410c stainless stell, i saw 440c stainless steel, what does it means anyway?
440c Stainless
