Q: Hello everyone. First, I don‘t like and never have liked to work on cars. I guess that is the reason I don‘t know anything about them. I have a 2002 Chevy Avalanche North Face edition. I want to lift it between 6-8. I want some really bad *** tires, mud-like, with black rims. What size of rims would I need as well with what size of tires? I want to be able to buy the rims and tires before I get the lift. What ever answer you all give me, I would like to know why, so that way I learn little. Thank you all.
Man, be really careful. Lifted cars flip a heck of a lot easier than non-lifted. As for the size of the tires I am no expert in this, but I believe it is whatever size you can fit on there while not affecting the fender well. If you have too big of a tire, you will create an issue in the fender well when turning. That will tear the fenders up. No bueno. You should get it lifted before you buy stuff for it, because it will depend on how it fits in your fender wells. Sometimes, after a lift, the fender wells have to be redone because they are too narrow and the car looks ridiculous really high up with smaller tires. Honestly, coming from someone who works on cars, I do not recommend you lifting it. You can get bad tires and rims without posing a threat to your safety. You will also need to have your speedometer and odometer re-calibrated once you lift the car. Bigger tires make both of those inaccurate. That will cause a lot of problems down the line especially if you decide to sell. If I am correct, it can be considered odometer fraud for not having them re-calibrated and selling the car as a 70,000 mile car when really it has 120,000 because you didn't recalibrate.
Q: I was wondering why cars don‘t work like airfoils due to their shape. I‘m talking a flat bottom with a curvy top. Sure not your ideal Epler airfoil but why is it that an airplane doesn‘t suddenly shoot up from the road? Is it the density of the car. Also cars usually want downwards force (inverted lift) for more traction right so I suppose that could be a reason.
They produce way too much drag to lift off the ground - although some lift may be produced due to their shape and movement it is nowhere near enough to lift them up. Although, sports cars and especially formula one cars are a different matter - they are incredibly streamlined to make them go quicker and parts of their design use the same aerodynamic principles as airplane aerofoils do. They have to have certain weights to prevent them lifting off the ground. If you look at some sports cars they have a sort of 'handle bar' at the back and this is to help keep their traction and prevent them from lifting off and therefore loosing control.
Q: Hey guys Itook my car to mechanic because my engine light was on and the code showd that it was unsufficient egr lift or something like thatthey had changed the egr valve before so this time they said there was carbon build up and they cleaned it and my car runs great now. i don‘t have problem with accelaration and the engine doesn‘t stall when i stop, BUT the light came on again and still shows the same code. I am sick of it!!! anybody knows what else could it be? It‘s 94 honda accord with 140 000 miles on it.
Inside the EGR valve there is a coil spring that exerts pressure on a diaphragm valve. The diaphragm valve has a large light weight washer in the middle that controls the plunger (heart of the valve) that opens when the car is at higher under motion and closes when the motor is at idol. It's purpose is to allow a measured amount of exhaust gasses to flow back through the intake manifold to help lower emissions. The trouble is, it is a pure mechanical vacuum devise that wears out and not respond to the vacuum supplied to it. In reality the valve gets dirty and stick open or closed because carbon caused no-name or low octane fuel. Your best bet is to have it replaced.
Q: How do spoilers on sports cars help reduce lift?
The other person was mostly right, except he had the actual physics backwards. The airplane wing is shaped so that the air above it is moving faster than the air below, which means there is less pressure on top of the wing, eventually leading to lift to pick the plane off the ground. A spoiler on a car works the exact same way but the opposite. The bottom side of the wing plane for the car spoiler is longer than the top side, so the air moving under the bottom of the spoiler is moving faster and thus has lower pressure. This forces the rear of the car to not lift at higher speeds (since a car itself is shaped like an airplane wing with a flat bottom and rounded top, so the air travels farther over the top of the car than under it, creating lift at higher speeds).
Q: uld superconducting coils be mounted beneath a car to repel it against the force of gravity?Theoretically if it worked, the coils would act as permanent magnets so that relatively little energy would be needed to lift the car against the force of gravity.
no. The earths magnetic field is not concentrated enough to overcome gravity, otherwise we could do it with regular electromagnets now. (maglev trains have to have two sets of magnets- they don't rely on the earths magnetic field) The magnetic field of earth is also variable so even if gravity was weak enough for it to work you would be in danger of either crashing into the ground or flying up into the air depending on where you were driving.
Q: want to customize my car for a car show I need some advice on how to lift and lower it like hydraulics. I am aware it’s a new body frame so these type cars are not built for it. I just want honest answers on how to get this done.
Get a very cold, wet towel and wrap him in it tight then roll him around contineuously.
Q: I‘m 15 and my dad‘s teaching me how to drive We only own a manual car so I‘m learning on it! We practice in a parking lot that‘s mostly flat but has some hills. We pretend there are stop signs in random places to practice stopping and going. Whenever i stop on a hill I can manage to stop fine just when I start going again I seem to ALWAYS stall it. My dad says I take my foot off the clutch too quickly. Is there any trick to avoid this?
Play with the clutch and find out how much clutch you can let out before you stall it. Then it is a matter of clutch and throttle coordination.
