Q:I‘m having a small bathroom remodled. The floor isn‘t perfectly rectangular, there are some uneven areas because of the tub. I would like the opinion of a profession tiler (should there be one put there, somewhere)...should the floor tiles always be centered, or start lined up against a wall? Also, should the grout be completely dry before sealing it? Thanks.: Yes the tiles need to be centered ,but always dry lay them out to see what size cut you ll be getting at the walls left to right. If you end up with less than a 1/2 tile, shift tile over 1/2 of a tile at the center, this gives you a bigger side cut. I personally like to do a whole tile starting at the door way,I just think this is a better look , but there again you can start in the middle and dry lay them out. As far as sealing grout read directions on your particular sealer. Most silicone based sealers need the grout to cure for 30 days. Penetrating sealers ( which I suggest) take only a 72 ( 3 day) cure time. Silicone sealers wont last as long and need resealing based on your usage and what you clean with. Q:I have glazed porcelain tile to put in my bathroom, but the thing is... that is is only 1/4 of am inch thick... Is it still okay to use it?...: glazed tiles are fine to use in the bathroom, the important thing to remember is if they are set properly and to set on either mortar base or hardiboard. the main concern though, would be whether the surface is too smooth a finish when used on the floor, especially when the tiles are wet! this could become a hazard to your health! a lot of tiles used in a floor application, have a sanded or rough finish ,just because of that !

Q:I absolutely hate the tile in our main bath, its coming up and in a few places there is no grout, so its basically looks awful. The bathroom is my dogs fav place to be and i am constantly sweeping the gobs of hair that get in the cracks. Are there any suggestions for an eay fix? Q:we had our bathroom redone, it looks great but the guy that did it got some grout on one of the decorative tiles, where it shouldn‘t be. Is there a way to get the grout off ?: Just try to pour vinegar on the tiles to remove grout haze. Vinegar, a mild, non-staining acid, will remove thin layers of grout and grout haze. Let the vinegar set for five minutes. Scrub the surface with a nylon brush. Tile with leftover grout or haze has more friction than tile with a clean surface. Scrub one tile at a time, but complete the entire floor.Then soak up the vinegar from the grout joints with a sponge. Rinse the sponge in a bucket of clean water, then wash the tiles with a clean sponge. If the sponge slides easily over the surface and hits a spot that seems to grip the sponge, scrub that spot with the nylon brush. Allow the surface and the water and vinegar in the grout joints to dry. Polish the tile with a clean, dry rag.

Q:My husband and I are thinking about putting tile on our front porch. It‘s 10 x 13 roughly size room. Would 6x6 size tiles look better or would 12x12? What do you think?: I okorder , All of these websites will have great suggestions on pattern.

Q:My dad layed tiles in his kitchen recently. He had some plywood type stuff that he layed them on top of so they are on a flat, even surface. But then someone told him he should have put a netting type stuff underneith the tiles too, to keep them from breaking. Is that very important, will his floor be ruined now?: Its called wire mesh. Its not used as much anymore. What makes tiles or grout crack is the wood below the tiles. If the floor joists are too far apart and the plywood is not thick enough it can cause the floor to move. Even a little bit of movement can cause the tiles and the grout to crack. The wire mesh will not help if the floor moves.

Q:i have the material that is needed to tile my home but cannot pay for it to be done so i need information on how to do this: If you need to prep such as lay cement board or do you have slab to go directly over? Proper prep work is the most important thing. To lay tile , center the room, lay tile out dry. When you get to the wall, if you have a 1/2 tile or bigger, your all set. If you end up with less than 1/2 tile, recenter the middle tile to shift every thing over by a 1/2 tile. Then strike a line. Mix thin set, let it set and mix again. You ll want it to be spreadable but not to thick. The use of the proper size trowel for what ever size tile. Don t spread any more thin set than you can set tile in just a few minutes.
