- Q:12x12 ceiling tile are loose and sagging
- Hi okorder
- Q:Does anyone know where I can find a blue and white checkered floor tile for my bathroom? Some places carry the black/white but nothing else. I‘m looking for the smaller sized stuff that‘s attached to the roping behind it that i can lay down easier, but if it‘s a checker pattern on a full tile that‘s fine too. Any leads appreciated!

- Q:I have thinset my slate tiles in place, and washed any thin set off as best as I can with water. I can‘t seem to get some of the thinset marks off, how important is this? Also, how long should I let the tiles dry before I can seal them? (I want to seal before grouting). One last thing, my sealer product says to grout 2 hours after sealing? This seems fast...will the sealer be dry enough?
- Yikes! in case you seal the tile till now you grout, you will have bonding issues, grout to tile. you're able to desire to alter the feel of the floor of the grout to be helpful. The invisible, penetrating sealers won't comfortable out the grout floor, it incredibly is a prerequisite for protecting it sparkling. make certain you have a sufficiant coat to be helpful. as some distance by using fact the kind is going, ask your tile corporation who lays the main tile interior the section. That installer provides you with the final tip on your grout sealer.
- Q:I accidently kicked in one of the tiles near the knobs on the bottom front of the shower. the tile is caved in and loose so i took it out and noticed the blue board behind it. There is a blue board and 6 tiles on the board. the blue board is easily pushed back and has little support. the 6 tiles are loose too and if i press the tile, it will go back a little. I think the blue board provided little support for the tiles and the tile cave in would of happened eventually anyway. either that or it was completely my fault because i caved in one of the tiles which made all of the other tiles loose?? I think the blueboard had little support and it wasn‘t completely my fault. should i fight my landlord on this?i just met with her and sat through a lecture with her accusing me of everything, from having parties trashing the apartment to the slightly black grout near the tub so im kind of worked up over this.
- The tile is installed incorrectly. Water has soaked the blue board and it was a matter of time before theu fell off on their own. Tile should never be installed this way and especially in a well used shower where a lot of use will make it go bad faster. Nothing less than a cement backer board should have been used. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q:I have a small bathroom (toilet only) that has carpet that smells and I want to replace it with 12 X 12 inch tiles. Is there a type of tile that will make the installation simple (avoid grout) and is easy to cut and easy to installHigher quality but simple installation is desired.
- Sorry, tile has to be grouted. It all installs the same way. It is really pretty simple to install, but you will need a tile saw or tile cutter and the proper tools. You will also want to remove the toilet during installtion. This way the tile will run up under the toilet base.
- Q:I‘m remodeling my kitchen and there is ugly floor to ceiling wall tile. My contractor says can‘t put up drywall without reframing (which would be expensive). So does anyone have suggestion on what to do with this wall?
- If the tiles are on a villa board just rip it off the studs and take out any nails or screws so the drywall can just be fixed straight onto the studs. First you have to knock one of the tiles off, since that walls is being redone this won't upset the apple cart. Just be care when taking off the tile, because I was doing the same things years ago and I hit a tile with a hammer and it shattered sending bits of razor sharp tile fly one cutting my arm, wear eye protection and put something like a towel over the tile so it won't fly everywhere. Once you've knock off a tile if there's board behind it you're in luck, just continue doing as you got the first tile off and clear the studs of anything that will get in the way of the sheetrock. If not you'll need to batten the wall out to take the sheetrock as your contractor said Well depending on what you intend to do with the wall, will you re-tile? If you intend to re-tile just use a chisel and carefully knock them off the wall taking as much of the tile mortar off as you can, it doesn't matter if there's a little unevenness, but you can't have high spots all over the wall, because if you re-tile the high spot will cause the tile to ride on ithe high spots making it hard to tile, if it's just a little the tile compound/mortar will even out around it during tiling. I'd take anything higher than 1/8 off using a Scutch Hammer. ...
- Q:I am going to lay bathroom floor tiles in my bathroom but I have some questions before I start. 1. Can I lay the new tiles over the existing floor, which is vinyl flooring? Or do I have to remove that first? 2. If I have to remove the vinyl flooring do I have to add cement backer board? Or can I lay the tile right over whatever is under the vinyl flooring? 3. I have trim along that floor that I will be re-attaching, do I lay the tile right up to the wall or do I put a space in between the wall and the edge tile? Do I then grout into that space between the wall and the edge tile?
- No need. Just apply the mud and screw down the board. Allow 1 day dry and you can start laying the tile You only need at least 1/4 inch. Between tiles you can go to 1/8
- Q:I went and removed 3 ft of tiles from the side of the bath tub starting at the bottom. The tiles had the cement on it so it came off the wall exposing the wood the to the house and i saw the water damage to the wood. How do i patch up the wall? Do I use plywood and than cement it and than add the new tiles?
- If I understand the problem correctly, it sounds like you have water damage inside you wall. You first need to find out what caused that damage. If you repair the wall without finding the water leak, it will happen again. If the area was dry rot and it didn't sem like there was currently water there, then it is likely safe to fix. Carefully remove tiles until you no longer see any water damage to the wood. I'm not sure what wood is there. If its plywood, replace it with a like thickness (most of the time today, they use drywall, but its a special kind that is usually green that's made for bathrooms and moist areas). Before replacing the tiles, clean them up and remove any old grout from the edges. Be careful as the tile are very brittle and break easy. There are a number of bathroom tile type caulks that can adhere the tile to the wood. I suggest going to somewhere like Lowe's or Home Depot or a similar store and ask someone in the plumbing dept or the paint dept what kind of caulk to use to attach tile to wood. Apply the tile to the wall using the caulk. Now you need to re-grout the seams. Buy grout and apply it in all the seams. Let it completely dry (read the box but most say at least 24 to 48 hrs to completely cure) then after its cured, apply grout sealer over the top of the grout seams.
- Q:this tile i‘m buying is pei 5 and breaking point of 450 lbs. 24x24 inch. at a $1.60 sq/ft. is this a good tile?
- pei refers to the slip resistance of the tile . Thats the highest rating buttttt, most all porcelains are rated this high. 5 rates the tile at a commercial usage which will take heavy foot traffic The tinsel strength is just average. So overall its not a bad tile. The absolute most important thing is the proper setting technique. Not setting it properly and over the correct sub floor , it doesn t matter what you get. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q:I am purchasing a home and need to change the flooring before moving in. It is a 1500 sq foot house including garage, laundry room etc. I have already picked out carpet for the 3 bedrooms but am trying to decide on laminate wood floors or tile? It would be in the rest of the house including hallway, living room, and kitchen. I have heard tile floors are great, yet hard to clean, and hurt people‘s legs. I haven‘t heard too much about the laminate floors.Any opinions, suggestions, stories?? I would really appreciate it!
- If you can afford to put in a porcelain tile then you can do a hard wood. And when you say a laminate wood, I assume you mean a engineered wood which is a laminated wood as opposed to a laminate which is a good product when you get a mid range to a high end product. But to answer your question, I d do the earthy tile since you have a natural stone look in your kitchen and earthy tones in the walls and carpet, I wouldn t go dark..At least a mid tone or lighter wood flooring if you go that route. Any questions or ball park figures, e mail me through my avatar.. GL
