- Q: Hey i have a dodge dakota and both catylitic converters are falling apartchipping off making a rattling noise.there was a lawsuit against this giving trucks from 1996-2001 a warantyunfortunatly my truck is 2002we are curently talking to dodge about getting this warentybutit will cost 1500 to factory fixis there any other options i can do other than getting new catalitic converters.like getting a whole new exhaust system??? any suggestions(SORRY FOR SPELLING lol)
- If you don't have any success with claiming replacement under emission warranty, then foget getting stock replacements. Look for aftermarket high-flow replacements, and give yourself some extra horsepower for less money than Dodge's ripoff stock replacements.

- Hi LIL J two good reasons to leave well alone the warranty becomes null and void and you are more likely to get a ticket if the exhaust is noisy. then we have the other issues like poor acceleration and reduced mpg. so what is the point of any modifications if it has a component failure BMW will not honour the warranty. so you could be paying out for something which is nothing to do with making the exhaust louder. then the police will fine you for being an idiot. the lack of what that particular car is famous for acceleration and top speed what a dummy you will make of yourself.

- If you want to be loud, and get noticed, you can remove the catalytic converter, and replace it with a test pipe, or hollow it out. If you do it yourself, it's free! That's probably the easiest way to do it. HOWEVER this will not improve performance. If you want performance AND sound, look around at exhaust cutouts, cat-back exhaust (Meaning from the catalytic converter, and back), and aftermarket headers. Exhaust is one of the easiest 'bolt on' mods you can do aside from an air intake A few notes though -Car enthusiasts will not be impressed, because they will know it's not performance -This is illegal, and you will not be able to pass emissions testing. However, some people pay off mechanics to pass the car, or put the cat back in when the test comes around. I don't recommend this. ;-) -You will be called a ricer, especially with an Integra -You will get more attention. From everyone. Police included -If you're 16, your parents probably won't like it -As I said, this is illegal, so you're going to have to do it yourself, have a friend do it, or go to a shady mechanic. Hypothetically of course, because I don't condone illegal behavior. Wink wink -Unless you get a real exhaust system, it could sound like a higher pitched sound, unlike the deep rumble you're probably looking for. Youtube some stuff like exhaust no cats or cat-back exhaust Despite all this, highschool kids, for the most part, have no idea about cars, and will think your car is wickid sick! or hella cool or whatever. - It will not affect your milage, unless you drive it hard. However, that is if you get a proper system. If you straight pipe it, or remove the system all together, you will slowly destroy your valves, and you car will not run as well. It will slowly get worse and worse, until you have a leak, which will require you to tear you engine apart and rebuild it. This will happen, and I see cars in my shop like this all too much. don't skimp out, a system will run you 700s at worst. A rebuild will run you 2-3k at best.

- You do want to convert it over if you don't know how the system works It is far more expensive to fix so you do want to convert it over. You would need either really good jacks or a hoist i would suggest finding a garage that knows how to do the conversion its not that difficult but you need to have the car up in the air.

- This is a fine line but I believe if it's a CAT back system, it should not have any affect on the warranty of this vehicle.
