- Q: We just bought a house and the bathroom tile looks terrible. Its not in bad shape, I just dont like the ugly floral pattern. Since we had to spend a lot of money on other projects in the house we dont have a lot to spend on re-tiling, The bathroom is small, about 5ftx4ft of floor, so I thought peelstick would be a good option. The tiles currently on the floor are peel and stick, should I remove them all before I apply the new ones? or can I just give them a good cleaning and lay the new tiles over them?
- I agree that real tile can be nearly as cheap as peel and stick, but much more attractive. Its a lot harder work though! Peel the old ones up. I stuck sticky tile over old sticky tile in my laundry room and now the pattern of the old tile is starting to show through.

- Q: I have a very outdated bathroom with pink tile covering just about every wall. I love to do DIY projects but can‘t afford to replace the tile. I can however afford to paint it. I read up on it and found the paint directions but don‘t want the end result to look tacky. Has anyone done this and liked the results?
- I had probably the same tile in my bathroom. It was half way up all walls and around the tub.. When I moved in (5 years ago), I cleaned, primed with original Kilz, and painted 2 coats of Zinsser Perma White paint in a satin finish. After 5 years and at least 3-5 showers a day, I have had to touch up a couple spots. You can definately tell it has been painted with a brush and roller, I think it looks a lot less tacky than pink tiles.

- I would put down a backer board of some sort. It goes by several names, but cement board is one generic version, I think. Hardi-backer is a brand name. When I did my bathroom floor, I screwed down quarter inch boards, and tiled over that. Check carefully to see that you don't end up with a finished floor height that interferes with doors. Also - you may have to extend the height of the toilet flange so that you get a good seal, as the wax ring may not be enough once you raise the floor level.

- countertops are going more tile or granite anymore. depends on your taste and style your looking to achieve. if you are wanting a more expensive look, go for porcelein. very nice tile. if you have animals, dogs, i would not go with a white grout or a white floor. tile is less expensive in price but porcelein in rich looking.

- That is basically correct. Vinyl rolls are sheet goods rolled in one piece to allow for seamless flooring. Tiles are boxed and set in place one at a time and is easier than installing sheet goods.
- Q: I have a few chips in my ceramic floor tile. It‘s a light natural color tile, so the chipped part is dark and noticeable. Is there anything that you can put in the chips to cover them up?
