- 2 ways. remove the old or not? If the old floor is level and pretty intact you can just go over it. Use hardi-backer under the tile, its a breeze. Just make sure to use the spacers they sell, and the trowel for the proper glue depth. Hardest part is removing the tpilet(turn off water, flush twice, put in tub on pile of old sheets). Cutting tile is simple also. You can buy a blade that goes on your hacksaw blade. You can buy the miter-box type for $30.00. Lay it out for fewest cuts. Grout hides imperfections, and tile is inexpensive. go for it.

- Remove standard grout haze, any time now with a dry rag. I prefer an old towel or hand towel. More stubborn haze or a rougher textured tile I prefer a white nylon pad. Sold most any where tile and tile supplies are sold. Buff using the nylon pad. Do this also dry. By doing it wet with water or a vinegar/water solution you reintroduce grout onto the tile by using the dirty water. You ll have to do it more to get the haze off. Don t seal grout until all haze is removed or the sealer will be sucked into the haze and that gets sealed onto the tile. use a penetrating sealer 3 days after tile was grouted. - I think it is something to worry about, if he loses his balance he can easily hurt his foot or hit his head on something. Have carpets or mats around that has grippers below it, so its easier and safer for your puppy to walk/run on.

- Ceramic tile. It will take the traffic better, wood is prone to water damage Tile cleans much easier than wood and will take moppings where wood you should never mop( water can damage it). Grout, when you seal it,cleans easy. Wood looks great other places and add value to a house ( ceramic does to) but not in a high traffic water prone area such as the kitchen. Much more maintenance than ceramic. Wood will cost a bit less butt ceramic will installed properly will last a life time with out having to be refinished.. - Having recently removed a s***load of tile during a kitchen remodel, I wish you luck in saving a whole lot of them! Carefully slide a prybar under the edge of the tile---wiggle til it loosens then use the prybar as a lever to remove the tile. It worked for me. Surprisingly many remained whole without chips or cracks, and I wasn't trying to save them. Just didn't want the huge mess involved in the sledgehammer method. LOL

- A tiled back splash should cost very little in general. I set tile around the entire kitchen above the sink stove and counter tops. The entire job including stylish glass tiles cost me under $100 That included Tile, Thin-set, spacers, 15-square foot tiles, grout and grout sealer. Tile is an inexpensive solution, it just takes a little time due to having to wait for some processes to cure before proceeding to the next step. If it's your first attempt I would recommend purchasing a small container of (premixed) thin set to make sure the consistency is right. Careful not to use too much of the stuff. It's probably why it's called (thin-set). A small amount spread on the wall with the thin set applicator and a very thin amount applied to the back of each tile is all you'll need. Use a level as you go to make sure the tiles are straight You may want to buy one of those 10-20 dollar kits that are sold in a bucket that comes complete with everything you'll need to do the job. The kit should include the bucket, a sponge, tile spacers, tile nips, rubber float for spreading the grout and the tool used to apply the thin set to the wall.
