- Q: LOL He barks, jumps, whines and bites at the vacuum while I am using it(and with a black GSD I do have to use it alot!!). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him used to this? When he was a puppy it did not bother him at all but as he got older, the minute it comes out of the closet he starts whining and barking at it. I have tried telling him NO as I vacuum and he will stop for a 1/2 a minute and watch it but it seems that as I am moving it back and forth across the rug he just can't help himself and he's on it again. I have tried distracting him with toys and cookies to no avail. Short of putting him outside (or in a closet JK) I don't know what to do. Anyone else who had this problem (or not) and may have some help?
- I dislike vacuum cleaners intensely too. The noise really gets on my nerves and I would bite it if I could! Shut the dog in a different room, a crate, outdoors, or in the car if not sunny. Arrange to have a high value treat to distract the dog with so he sees the vaccuum cleaner as the start of something nice.
- Q: They were invented to suck dirt and dust anyway, right ? Geez !! And why did mine have to break ????
- Because they suck and blow Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week long, thank you, thank you
- Q: So why are dogs afraid of vacuum cleaners?
- Not all dogs are afraid of them but I think most are really interested in them. I think it's the noise and the movement. Catledog owners almost universally tell of our dogs wanting to herd the vacuum! :-)
- Q: I have long hair and it gets all over the carpet. The vacuum cleaner is meant to be a good strong one but it can't manage the hair. At best it will put it into clumps. I have to pick it up manually and it's very annoying. Why won't the vacuum cleaner work? Will another one work or am I doomed?
- its not your vacuum cleaners fault. its the fact that your hair sticks to the carpets fibre so well. i have this same problem and my vacuum isnt good enough to do the job. what i do, is a get a broom. it must be very strong and have strong brissles. dont use the pathetic soft broom. the broom i use, is kind of like a scribbing broom used to scrub tiles. so basically just use it like a vacuum cleaner, and it will pick up all that hair from your carpet :)
- Q: What are hovering vacuums?
- Vacuum cleaners are also known as hoovers. The US call the action vacuuming and The UK hoovering.
- Q: for the purchase of a new vacuum cleaner. But when I find one that gets good reviews, a little more searching uncovers absolutely horrible reviews for every machine I've looked at! Except of course the ones that cost over $400.So...has anyone bought a vacuum cleaner that doesn't have a ridiculous price-tag, that has actually continued to work well after you've had it for a year or more???
- I have a Hoover from Costco that cost less than $100. It hasn't let me down. When I was growing up, we had a Red Devil that burned through fan belts like a smoker burns through ciggies. Ultimately, no vaccuum under $400 is going to have 100% great reviews. There's always going to be a few bad experiences. Instead of looking for one with all glowing reviews, look for a high ratio of good to bad reviews. Also, look for bad reviews that involve less expensive repairs: a vacuum that tends to burn through fan belts is still better than a vacuum that blows up the second time you use it.
- Q: Honest, Himself just purchased a new vacuum we are told one of the attachments was used in the 1940s for nit picking.Have you ever heard of a nit picking attachment being put on vacuum cleaners in the past? If you were to gain some nits would you be inclined to use a vacuum to remove them? Why or why not.Oh in case you were wondering I don't catch nits. I know this because back in the day I had work that involved louse removal from humans I never, ever caught any. Apparently I am immune.
- Personally, I've never heard of a system like that. When I had nits, we had to use a type of shampoo and a nit comb every day.
- Q: We have a mischievious dog in the house that keeps chewing and destroying things. The power cord he severed belonged to a Kenmore Progressive Direct Drive vacuum cleaner and it will take about $25 to replace, rather than buying a whole new vacuum cleaner. I was wondering if anyone thought it was a dumb idea to attempt to remove the back part and replace this cord or if it could be done at all? If you have any experience or knowledge in the structure of vacuum cleaners, your input would be greatly appreciated. :) The model number is 11635923500.
- It is tricky even if you know how, it's a good idea to watch someone else do it the first time, or you can try to figure out how yourself, I would pay a vacuum shop to repair it if I weren't very much of a handyman, no need to buy a new vaccum. Good luck and tie up that bad dog.
- Q: I had sales people come to my door last night. I was just getting in the shower. I told them I had very little time. Two came in and demostrated. The woman was very understand and went through it fast. When they were getting ready to leave the big boss came in. I am assuming to close the deal. He went throught the demo all over again. I kept telling him I have been through it already. Three hours later they were leaving!! She apologized. It seems like an amazing vacuum, but a lot of work. In addition to the work it was going to cost me 1900.00! I hear they Dyson (misspelled I am sure) is good. Does anyone know anything about the Dyson?
- I live where Kirby vacuum's are manufactured.. I've never had anyone come to my house selling Kirby... However, I will have to say that my mother-in-law and her mother-in-law both have refurbished Kirby's from the 1940's/1960's.. In fact they still run and they have them serviced for under $25 which is a total rebuild ! It's very rare in this day and age to have a vacuum still working after so many yrs. Although, they are heavy which is why I have been given my mother-in-laws vacuum she has to have a lighter vacuum.. I've heard that Dyson in good but, I would hardly think it will be around for 20, 30 or 40 yrs. We've gotten use to in our thinking that to just throw away and buy a new one.. If you like the Kirby may I suggest going to an estate/garage sale or vacuum repair place they may have one for considerably cheaper.. Good luck
- Q: I've seen a lot of advertisements for Sears Cannister Vacuums on sale or on closeout recently. Are these vacuums any good, on an absolute level, and also for the money they cost?
- I clean houses for a living and love it when the house I'm cleaning has a canister vac.I own one myself and wouldn't ever own an upright.
