Q:So I drunkenly put my elbow through my friend's passenger window in his jeep wrangler..he's pissed and is demanding $200 for its replacement or he's pressing charges. Yeah, nice friend. 200 dollars sounds like an astronomical amount for a piece of plastic that zips onto your car. Am I getting ripped off?: You're not getting ripped off... those things are surprisingly expensive.

Q:Are envelopes with plastic windows recyclable?: I would say yes they are recycable.

Q:i have 2 windows that are always wet in the winter. will putting plastic insulation over them help this problem?: well, no not at all. The only thing we use plastic over windows for is trying to prevent drifts in the winter.

Q:And then you use a hair dryer on it and it shrinks the plastic?Does that work for all plastic? Will all plastic shrink? Or are the ones in the store a 'special' type of plastic?: most plastic does not shrink. the stuff you're talking about is designed to shrink when heated like shrink wrap on packages.

Q:I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,: If you have the double pane windows, don't use the film. It creates too much heat between the double pane windows and causes their seals to pop. The film also cuts sun so if you have plants, they will be negatively affected. Heavy drapes will do the same thing as the film and in the winter, when you want the additional heat, you can just open the drapes during the day and get sun, but you can't remove the film.

Q:Ok, I just moved in to my own apartment this past Spring, and it's an older duplex (with a lot of friggin windows-31 to be specific). So trying to keep the heat in this winter is a huge issue. I've heard of covering the windows with plastic to help, but I'm also looking at thermal shades (window quilts, etc.). My question would be which of these would keep more heat in? Or should I do both? (I would make my own if doing the quilts...so if anybody has any links to a really easy way to make them that would be very much appreciated as well! ) Money is tight, so I'm trying to avoid the problem to begin with..: I've had the same problem before. This is what I would do....I would do the plastic (There is some that you can use a hair dryer on to tighten up so it looks better and doesn't blow around). Once that is done I would do the quilts/blankets to be a bit more insulating. You could just tack them up inside the window frame or if you have curtain rods is even better. Thanks.: Not outside at all Use the wrap on all windows double panes too cuz it all helps here's how tape the double side tape to the moulding of the window not the window itself or wall because the more air space the better here place wrap on the tape secure so no gaps or airspace use hair dryer to shrink use good stuff foam (have nail polish remover and latex gloves) on half inch or bigger gaps around the house and caulk the rest

Q:I have a 4quot; tear in the plastic drivers side window. Are there any adhesives or techniques to fix it?: None that will look nice. You could use a thick clear tape however it will look ghetto.

I want to know if condo buildings ever build their windows with plastic.: Perhaps some would and others would not. Each builder would build a building according to the specifications of the owner and developer. If the plans call for glass normally glass would be used, on the other hand if the plans called for plastic then plastic would be used. Some cities require a certain material to be used in building a building prior to the issuance of a building permit. Some cities require energy efficient windows, therefore the deciding factor as to the type building material has bee determined by the city or county who issue the building permit.
