- Q: Most of the windows in our home are pretty drafty. We've been putting up the thin, shrink with a hair dryer Duck plastic in our windows for winter to help with the drafts. I want to make some window quilts for this winter to help, but I'm not sure how to combine them with the plastic, or if we should just use them with out the plastic. Would it be more effective to plastic right around the window, inside of the frame, and then hang the quilt right on top of the plastic, or hang the quilt outside the frame, or just hang the quilt directly on the window with out the plastic?
- I would go with 4mm plastic - it is fairly opaque, but it is far better at keeping the cold out. Cover the whole window including the frame with the plastic, then hang your quilt over it. You should notice a big difference, and the pretty quilt will hide the ugly plastic. : )
- Q: I have yucky shades on my windows dead bugs all around my windows. They are old windows so I bought an insulation kit to do the windows. It says I will need to blow dry. What if I don't want to touch the disgusting shades my landlord said be would replace when I moved in ? I am kind of stuck living here so until I can find a place a roommate, I want to seal the windows. shades completely. They have poor insulation a handful bugs come in every hour.Do you think the plastic will work without shrinking it with a blowdryer? There are slice webs around my window so I am disgusted.
- rent a vac or use yours if it has a disposal bag system to clean up the bug mess == go to the grocery store or the hardware biggie and get some spray that repels insectos --- never used that plastic shrink so cannot tell you ho
- Q: on a bmw ragtop
- You can purchase 'window tint' that comes in rolls and at several shades from your local auto parts store or detail shop.
- Q: I have seen it done both ways.
- depends on your region because you do not want moisture build up in your house but the outside of the window would keep the wind from hitting the window somewhat and does not conduct temperatures like single pane glass. but it probably would not look are last as long on the outside
- Q: I figure that the little windows are plastic, not paper, and shouldn't be included with the paper products in the bins at the recycling centers. Am I right or wrong? It takes a lot of extra time to sort through all the junk mail in order to discard these envelopes.
- you are just a devoted recycler...
- Q: will the house retain heat if plastic windows and frames are installed?
- Very little. It is the trapped air inside insulation that makes it work. If the windows and or frames are insulated, then yes. The problem is, the gas used to insulate windows is not a do it yourself thing.
- Q: It is a clean tear- about 2 inches. I was wondering if there is anything I can use to glue it back together, or if a mechanic/garage would be able to fix it?
- THIS IS ASSUMING YOU MEAN THE HALF TOP PLASTIC WINDOWS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS, BUT IT ALSO WORKS ON THE REARS TOO. GO TO A POOL SUPPLY STORE (YES POOL SUPPLY) AND GET A LINER PATCH. THEY COME IN CLEAR MATERIAL, AND THE BEST THING IS, IT'S WATERPROOF!! (USED ON POOLS) NAD IF YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL WHEN APPLYING THE SEALANT, IT LOOKS LIKE A FUZZY SPOT ON THE WINDOW.
- Q: well i have a 1992 alfa romeo spider and some idiots sliced the back of the convertible on my plastic window. i was wondering how much it would cost if i send it to a shop and they sew off the old plastic window and sew back on a new plastic window
- they can do it --they have to remove the top-remove the stitching from old window and remove window-sew in window- replace top on car--this is NOT cheap but still cheaper than new top=--look for about 400 buck charge--shop all the auto upholstery shops in your area first--talk to your friends -talk to people in auto industry that have used any shops--you are naturally looking for someone that can do the job and do it efficiently and correctly- and at the lowest price==most shops operate on the cheap, good, fast idea--you can have any 2 of these statements--cheap and good not fast--you get the idea
- Q: I have a 1999 Sebring Convertible and I am desperately in need of a new top. Is it possible to get a plastic window with the top or no because I already have a convertible top with a glass window? Thanks!
- No due to plastic and glass in combination will over heat and melt. You can ask the car dealership or use paper wrapping over windows such as a moon or sun roof rather than plastic to glass.
- Q: I really ought to have asked this yesterday. How can I help my plastic-and-duct-tape car window survive a torrential downpour/thunderstorm??? It's the front, passenger-side window, and I can't get the glass replaced until Wednesday. :S What can I do???
- You know what they say about Duct tape......Spare the Duct tape spoil the project (Red Green) Get a 5 mil plastic then along with taping it to the inner part of the door, to help keep it dry. put an X pattern on the plastic, this will reinforce it.
