Q:So I drunkenly put my elbow through my friend's passenger window in his jeep wrangler..he's pissed and is demanding $200 for its replacement or he's pressing charges. Yeah, nice friend. 200 dollars sounds like an astronomical amount for a piece of plastic that zips onto your car. Am I getting ripped off?
You're not getting ripped off... those things are surprisingly expensive.
Q:When is it ok to take the plastic off my windows for summer? (the weatherization plastic that you blow-dry tight in the fall) I want some fresh air in my house but am not sure if it's the right time yet. I live in upstate NY.
When you know you'll be comfortable in the house without the plastic on the windows. Some people are comfortable when the weather gets into the 50's, some at other temperatures.
Q:I have tried the heating up shrink wrap and the double sided sticky tape won't hold on my wall. So I bought a thick layer of plastic and tried to hold it up with tacks and just duct tape around it. The duct tape also comes peeling of my walls. Is there some kind of tape/glue that can hold this plastic up and not peel off my walls?
If the walls are dirty, or painted with flat sheen paint, no tape will stick
Q:does tapeing plastic over windows help very much in winter?
It does help somewhat. When you seal a window like that, you're creating an area of dead air (non-circulating) which does help slow down heat transfer. It's like the pockets of air in an insulated jacket or in fiberglass insulation. It also seals up any gaps and leaks in the window itself. I find that to really reduce the heat loss through a window, I use plastic on the inside and the outside and use a heavy material as a curtain. Between the three, I don't feel the chill from around the windows. @Boy Boy - That's what my Central Heating system is designed to do. It has an air-exchanger that trades the stale inside air with the outside air AND has a heat exchanger to take the heat from the air going out to pre-warm the heat coming in to the house. Even without that, homes leak enough air to not develop mold. We're not talking making a hermetic seal here. Every time the doors open you get a significant air exchange. And that's not even mentioning all the office and commercial buildings that do not have windows that open. They have sealed, double and sometimes triple pane windows filled with inert gases. They don't get mold. Mold in the winter develops on areas where condensation on the walls forms. And if you have condensation forming in the house on an exterior wall, then there is usually a lack or a failure of the insulation in that area that needs to be addressed. Before you call someone an idiot, make sure that they're actually doing something idiotic.
Q:I am looking for the plastic parts / clips that attach the glass pane to the cables of my car's window regulator. I can't find them individually. Specifically, I need them for Audi, BMW or Volkswagen (VW). Thanks
Window Regulator Clips
Q:I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,
If you have the double pane windows, don't use the film. It creates too much heat between the double pane windows and causes their seals to pop. The film also cuts sun so if you have plants, they will be negatively affected. Heavy drapes will do the same thing as the film and in the winter, when you want the additional heat, you can just open the drapes during the day and get sun, but you can't remove the film.
Q:Do they use glass or plastic for windows on aeroplanes?
I believe it's dense plastic, similar to bulletproof glass. Glass shatters, and that's not something you want on a plane. So typically dense plastics are the way to go. They are strong and shatter resistant.
Q:Does that thin plastic window covering people use during the winter really help any?
Thin covering may help a little. Of course it depends on the intensity of the cold. The thicker the plastic the better. Of course I would recommend you have a contractor assist you with winterizing your home, in the early fall.
Q:Hi there,My apartment is getting so cold. Since I can feel the cold air coming in through the windows I decided to buy a plastic kit that may help me on this situation. When I read on the back it says that it can not be done on drywall (there are not frames around the windows just the draywall). Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it.
Install heavy drapes on each window. This will cut down the draft. If the windows are in that bad shape you should ask your landlord to replace them.
Q:how do you change the plastic rear window in a miata?
You can find directions on this at OKorder
