WHY don't we have a car right now in 2010 that gets 100+ mpg?Ok we have the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius that get 50MPG+ WELL why not DOUBLE or TRIPLE or QUADRUPLE the Batteries and get 100MPG??? Seriously WHY NOT PACK Enough Lithium Ion batteries in there to get 300MPG?? You mean to tell me that with all the technology we have today in 2010 that we can't come up with a Hybrid that gets 100MPG??? The automatic controls are powered from the AC mains to keep a set of batteries charged. THe batteries are used at the beginning of a blackout to power the automation and start the generator. (Once the generator is running these batteries may then be recharged from the power produced by the generator or when the AC mains is re-established.) Electronic controls sense the loss of AC power and trigger a starting sequence. The generators starter is engaged to crank over the diesel or Gas engine. The controls monitor this process to ensure the engine actually starts and that an excessive amount of cranking doesn't occur. Once the engine is running and brought up to proper speed additional automatic controls disconnect the now powerless AC mains from the buildings buss and connect the Generator power to the buildings electrical panel. Based upon the size of the generator some or all of the buildings power may be supplied by the backup generator. Without the automation the process is still the same except a persone would have to perform the process of starting the gen and placing it on line. Can someone explain to me the meaning of phase, R.P.M, power factor, and (especially) their respective units/numbers from this picture: 'Phase' has no units: it is merely a number, in this case 3. I personally got one of the Chinese 2 stroke 800w generators, its KWH per gallon performance is poor but in the winter it will run my gas furnace just fine and it only needs to be run several hours per day to keep the place above freezing. I have some batteries and inverters for lighting and I can cook with a portable propane camping stove. Since gasoline doesn't store well without going bad you will have to rotate your stock of it probably by using multiple small cans or by having a big tank and using your supply in your car and getting more as needed. Propane in a leak-free tank will store indefinitely Diesel will also store long term by occasionally treating it with fungicide and keeping any water drained off the bottom. Natural gas is obviously just piped in.
