Q:Question on Diesel Power generators?
The engine can run indefinitely without needing to stop for a rest provided it is properly maintained and cooled. You should change the oil and filters after every 200 hours operating time. Properly maintained you should expect at least 25-30 years operating time from the engine. Neglected and it could need replacing in less than 10. Not sure what 161 gsm/hp-hr means. Unlikely to be grams, but gallons per horsepower hour would be extremely high. Need to look further into it
Q:An electrical power system consists of identical diesel generators?
Some basic stats. Assumptions: each of the cases are independent problems. The constant .5/year failure rate is linear throughout the year (normally a failure rate curve of machinery is like a V w/ a chopped off left side. P(Failure @ 3 Months) 0.5 / 4 .125 1) P(1 failure @ 3 months) 0.125 1-P(failure) reliability 1-.125 0.875 2) P(First fails AND seconds fails) 0.125 * 0.125 0.015625 Reliability 1 - .015625 .984375 3) P(First fails AND Second fails AND Third fails) 0.125* 0.125 * 0.125 0.00193 Reliability 1 - 0.00193 0.998047
Q:Is diesel fuel ever clear?
I think you maybe right. The Muffler should not be that hot. Don`t chace futher damage, drain the tank and start over. Diesel cools and lubes the engine and Gas will destroy a diesel engine quick.
Q:why is Cummings engines so good?
Cummins has a great low end torque, so it can get a load moving pretty good. Inline engines are used in most freight trucks because of this. However, the downside of certian model Dodge trucks was a short lived automatic transmission. Thats why a lot of people went with the 6-speed tranny, which could pull a house. Cummins is also great on top end as far as speed and last just as long. When I was looking for a truck to buy, I was looking for a Ford body with the Cummins swap. I'm not a big fan of the Dodge body style. A Ford crew cab has more space than that of the Dodge REGULAR crew cab. International also builds inline engines that are mainly used in larger vehicles. International (Navistar) has been building diesel engine for the past 175yrs. International stopped building Power Stroke engines for Ford because they could not agree on the price for a length of time. I think Ford's now in house built engine has topped the current version of the Cummins in aspects as far as performance and maintanence. And you couldn't pay me to take a duramax
Q:What is the gasoline cost rate ($/Kwh) for a 50 Kw Generator?
Gasoline probably nothing. One that size is probably diesel.
Q:MOS Training Length??
Light Wheel? Track? Generator? There are a lot of different Diesel Mechanic MOS's Just look up 63 series (63B, 63H) MOS's on the internet and you can get a rough estimate
Q:How much diesel would you save per year by switching from incandescent to CFL?
1 Kwh 3.6 MJ. If you use each light 4 hours per day, and each was 100 watts, that is 4 x 100 x 10 x 365 1,460,000 watt hours per year. That requires 1,460 x 3.6 MJ 5,256 MJ. / 0.4 efficiency 13,140 MJ. So you need 13,140 / 36MJ/L 365 Liters of diesel. If you used CFLs, at 25 watts, the answer is 1/4 of that, so 365 / 4 91.25 Liters of diesel. So the savings is 365 - 91.25 273.75 Liters savings. At $1.25 per liter, that is $324.19.
Q:Do I take my new Job Offer or stick with my current job????
It all depends on you. If you want to get paid more and have more free time with your family then choose the new job but if you want to have a stable job and not have as much time with your family then stay with your job. If i was you I would go to the new job but thats just me.
Q:How to hook up a portable generator to the grid to supplement my solar system?
I'm not sure what you have in mind is a good idea. If you mean hook up a gas-powered generator, that will almost certainly be more expensive than grid electricity, and worse for the environment. Where I live in California, it is impossible to pay zero to the electric company while connected to the grid, that's just the way the program works. We are billed a minimum usage of 1 kWh a day, whether we use it or not. Also, having a gas generator ultimately tying back to the grid would classify me as a small generator, and require an agreement with the power company similar to the one I have for solar alone. I don't know what the rules are where you're located, but maybe they follow a similar philosophy? EDIT: okay, I see now. At least for my system, the entire system must be approved as a whole. If I want to alter the system, even by adding a couple panels, I'm supposed to notify the power company. Also, where I live, solar is treated differently from other forms of generation. Solar qualifies for net metering. If I wanted to be a small generator from (say) hydro, my output would be bought at a paltry rate, not even exchange at the same price that I buy at. Your hybrid system, with the generator rectified into DC then passed through your grid-tied inverter, might fall under the same classification, depending on where you live. Also check your inverter warranty to see if it might be voided by connecting to a diesel generator.
Q:what is difference between air cooled diesel engine & water cooled diesel engine?
Water cooled is hydrolic obviously and it don't really go faster depends what horse power the engine or motor is. Air cooled is just your basic diesal that need a spark to start and needs air to cool down.
