Q:How do I repair this broken tile?
Sockies, this is actually an easy repair. The first responder suggested liquid nails. Don't even consider that. If you have a matching tile available, use that in lieu of trying to clean off the tile. First off, it looks like the tile came loose based the non-continuous thinset on the bottom of the tile. If that is the case (which is probably the cause), you want to fill in under the tile with thinset, so the entire area where the tile sets is filled solid from the sub-floor to approx. 1/8 below the bottom of the surrounding tiles. You should remove the existing thinset where the tile will set. You can do this with a brick or masonry chisel. If a little remains at the perimeter, that will be fine. Trying to remove all of it flush with the surrounding tiles may result in loosening additional tiles. You don't want that. Allow about 5-6 hours for that to set (harden) enough to set the tile. You don't make it flush because you will spread additional thinset on the underside of the tile to set it. Use a 3/8 notched trowel to spread the thinset on the entire surface of the bottom of the tile. Place the tile keeping an even spacing from the tile to the surrounding tiles You want the grout joints to be the same size all around. Press down over the entire surface of the tile to ensure it embeds completely and is flush with the surrounding tiles. Allow it to set overnight and remove any thinset that will impede the grout from obtaining 1/4 depth. It's not necessary to make the grout the full depth of the tile. It's imperative to remove any loose grout prior to grouting. That's it. I suggest buying thinset that comes in the bag that you mix with water. Don't make it too soupy when you mix it. The thinset and grout need to (what's called) slake during the mixing process. It simply means you mix it, allow it to set 5 minutes and remix it, and it's ready to use. The bag will have those instructions on the back.
Q:Tiling over laminate countertops?
I tiled over the laminate in my kitchen by sanding the laminate with coarse sandpaper....priming with oil-based kilz-it and then tiled and grouted. It's still in the kitchen for over 7 years. You could also remove the countertop from the cabinet and replace with 1/2 plywood topped with 1/4 cement board but you would have to cut out the whole for the sink. Tiling over it is much easier. Just figure out your tile layout. I used 12 tiles for my custom countertop in my bathroom.
Q:Accept the quality of tiles to pay attention to what?
On the stickers of the brick vertical and horizontal lines are straight, wrong paste the wrong degree of brick to be consistent; flatness is better, brick angle can not have high and low gap, can not have empty paste; cement mortar shall not overflow the length of 1 / Brick angle and edge line shall not leave stains, imprints, scars; reserved water and electricity mouth to the edge of the neat, fixed water pipe interface protruding brick surface height reasonable; residual corner more than reasonable.
Q:We were going to tile our bathroom and utility room,?
bad idea laminate in a bath room it will not last because of moisture and steam use tile if you can i had laminate in my bath and it started to look bad in 3 months and i got the good kind the seams started to lift up we just could not stand it it looks good when you first put it in laminate and water do not mix trust me ask around go to a flooring dealer not home depot or Lowe's a flooring store and see what they say about laminate in bath's use tile
Q:can you tile over painted brick?
tile on what? forget it over the painted brick, only if you hang (nail) metal lathe (to do stucco), apply brown coat( concrete mix,) with stucco tools, go from bottom up, then thin set mortar to start tile if it's on the wall. the thin set has to have something to stick to. between the brown coat and thin set, spray water over the brown coat so it doesn't suck the water out of the thin set. or you could sheetrock the wall using furring strips to hang the sheetrock, tape the seams and go from there
Q:Porcelain tile rating help?
It does sound like good tile. If it for the floor then make sure it is not sluppery when wet. Also, any tile can be chipped if something falls on it. And the grout you put in is very important
Q:Bathroom wall seepage has been posted good tiles, how to solve?
The need for the use of tiles in home decoration "Tile glue" is used as an indispensable decoration materials in home decoration and is widely used. It is made of polymer and other cement-based adhesives. Special formula can be used in almost all kinds of existing tiles. The use of ceramic tile, so that the kitchen, bathroom decoration has the following advantages: ● good water retention, easy to produce hollowing; ● high bond strength, do not fall off; ● reduce the load-bearing capacity of the building, from the traditional paving per square meter of cement to be used 1 1 ~ 18KG reduced to 4 ~ 5KG ceramic tile, thereby reducing the building settlement and cracking; ● Tile adhesive coating thickness is much smaller than the traditional cement, saving valuable space position; ● On-site construction environment is clean; the use of ordinary plastic barrels can be mixed materials; ● Tile glue construction is very convenient; no need to immerse brick wet wall;
Q:Recurrence Relations through tiling ?
to build a line of length n, andd a green tile to the right of a line of length n-2 or add either a red or blue tile to the rihgt of a line of length n-1 f(n) = f(n-2) + 2f(n-1) f(0) = 1 (there is 1 way to make a line of length 0: use no tiles) f(1)=2 f(2) = 5 f(3) = 12 f(4) = 29 f(6) = 70 f*6( = 169 f(7) = 409 f(8) = 985 f(9) = 2379
Q:Tile in a 3 season porch that gets very cold in the winter?
Tile can be laid outside, so temperature is not the issue. The type of tile you use will determine if it stays down or not. I would look into a porcelain tile which is double fired and extremely hard, or a frost-proof tile which is used around swimming pools.
Q:can I put 12 inch ceramic tile over 16 inch ceramic tiles?
I don't think I would, if it is a shiny glazed tile in place now, There wont be a bond between the old and new tiles. If the current tile is a rough slate tile, maybe. Check the recommendations of the manufacturer of the tile you want to install. Another option is to install 1/4 inch concrete backerboard over the existing tile, but it should be screwed down and that's a real chore in your situation. Maybe the manufacturer knows of a type of mortar that will work on those smooth existing tiles (assuming they are smooth). I recommend you to hire a professional if you can hire. I recommend a company ciciliot who are very professional in this regard.
