- Q: The tile guy just wants to add fresh grout, but doesn‘t that wood need to be replaced too. Help the work is to be done in 2 days.
- Is this tile in the shower? If so you need to pull up the tile and have a tile membrane installed on the floor to waterproof the area. If it is outside the shower the wood should be treated wood or it will bulge and crack the tile in the future. If it is treated wood then you can just lay replacement tile down. If they know what they are doing and have the appropriate help, then any tile job can be done in one day.
- Q: I am wondering which tile will be easier to clean, polished or non polished? My hub and I are remodeling the bathroom and we are in the stage of deciding of tiles for the shower wall and bathroom floor.
- I will say polished, less pourous.=)
- Q: What should you pay attention to when installing tiles?
- Empty drums, shedding flatness after 3 days to see just finished shop looks like can not see
- Q: 6 blocks, 12 mirrors, 3 white tiles.
- you could make L shaped 'legs' (four) the same heoght with the glass blocks. turn the open parts toward the center, corners out. place the mirror on a piece of plywood, and frame the mirro with tile to make, coffee table, end table, sofa table, night table varying the design only by lengths and widths. You could make a set. Also take five mirror tiles and four 12 pieces of lumber. adhere a tile to two pieces of wood and set to dry, do it again, so to let two dry at a time. when dry, stand upright as ends of a cube use two tiles to complete the cube and set a fifth one on top for a mirror cube. Raise the mirror cube using glass blocks, as before. Cut a piece of 4x4 wood the lenth of the floor to ceilng and screw to a wall and tile with the white tiles to create architectural interest in a room. Build a column of wood, 12 x4 and use mirror on one side and tiles on the end to create a room dividing pice of art that uses the light in a room to trick the eye and increase it's size. With the prpoer nearly clear silicone you can create a column of glass blocks and light it from inside with christmas lights.
- Q: it is literally burning hot have no idaea wat the problem is plzz help:). porcelain tile btw
- is the basement below this bathroom?if so it could be the heat from a pot light. you would not believe the heat one throws off
- Q: I need to tile a kitchen back splash from counter to cabinets. Backerboard at the moment is drywall, textured and painted. I‘d like to hear some opinions on tiling directly over this or using cement backer board. Also thinset or mastic?
- You said textured. Is that textured paint or lumpy texture . If lumpy texturing, you have to get it smooth. Sand ,scrape or replace, just so its smooth to go over. No cement backer board required. This really isn t a wet area to really be concerned about.. Thinset or mastic will work fine. Thin set is a little harder to work with if your not all thatexperiencedd. But thin set is cheaper. If your using a self stacking tile its real easy. But if the tile your using requires spacers to hold it up until you set the spacer its a pia, but can be done. Mastic , w/ the right trowel , the tile will pretty much set and hold into place until you put a spacer in. Thin set will skim up and set up much quicker when using over dry wall .. The moisture will absorb into the dry wall just faster so you can t do as big an area at once..So when I do thin set over dry wall I make my thinset just a bit( just a bit) so that it ll set a bit longer. This takes practice and you need a bit ofexperiencee. . Now if your using some glass tiles you should use thin set.And they want you to use a special enhanced thin set.. - Q: I‘m planning to tile up my space. It‘s a 27 square meters. I‘ve calculated the number of tiles. It will be around 140 to 150 pieces with extra tiles. How much or how many bags of tile adhesive will I consume for the 27 square meters space using 150 pieces of tiles? or What is the area a bag of tile adhesive could cover? Can you show me a computation.
- You don t say what size tile it is and what your going over as far as a substrate. It makes a difference. Since I familiar with the coverage in s/f and your post suggests you came from the states I ll use a s/f format and some generalizations. Assuming you have a larger tile you should be using a larger notched trowel.1/4x3/8 but you may want to use a larger 1/2x1/2. I ll go off of a 1/4x3/8 trowel. A standard 50# bag of thin set will cover an area of 60/70 s/f using a 1/4x3/8 trowel. Splitting the difference and using 65 s/f per bag, divide 65 into the 290 s/f you have. Or 4.46 bags. So you ll need 5 , 50# bags of thin set using a 1/4x3/8 trowel. If your using a different size trowel , all bags have a coversion chart on the back to figure your coverage. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: Dont judge me, but can i install tile and drywall in a camper, without cracking, chipping, etc.
- You'd have to really rigid up the walls if you are going to pull it around much. Is it paneled with wood now? Drywall is going tomake it heavier tool
- Q: i mean i know they make tiles obviously, but how do they go about doing that exactly?
- Hello Most of the tile makers now use dust clay(fine powder) .they have a standard 6x6 two part mould that they fill with a set amount of the powdered clay insert the filled mould in to a fly press of similar type of press remove from the mold decorate glaze and fire in the kiln. this is just to give you some idea. The traditional way is to use plastic clay that's wet clay that you can press into a tile mould by hand or a small press remove leave to dry and then fire when fully dry.You can fine a few help full books on the internet or the Library. Cheers Bob a Job
- Q: More specifically, do you lay the tile right against the floorboard with no groat visible? Or would you put a spacer in between the floorboard and the tile so that it you have grout along the edge?
- That is what base boards and shoe molding are for. To cover the gap in the flooring material at the wall.
