more slippery, more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean?
Glazed tiles are colorful, the effect is rather diverse, stain-slip, abrasion resistance but worse than the porcelain tiles. Long-term use may wear a large surface; porcelain tiles have the higher degree, long hard wear surface. Good performance and stable cleanup (before playing the best times to use the wax to improve stain resistance). The porcelain tiles are weaker performance in non-slip than glazed tiles. We should take attention on its anti-slip properties, face down in a tiled brick water testing.

- Q: I need to replace a broken tile. I understand how to grout and tile but I have always done large sections and rented a tile saw. Can I use a dremal tool or something like that to cut it so I do not have to rent a saw ?
- dremel would take forever I used an angle grinder with an masonary wheel
- Q: My husband and I bought a house where most of the rooms (kitchen, dining room, entertainment room, den, and laundry room) are all tiled with these Terra cotta like tiles. They are a southern type rusty red and stain easily. My husband loves the tiles and wants to keep them. He‘s concented on changing the color if I want though, as long as I keep the origional tile. I‘m trying to make the house look a bit more elegant/country (Blues, silvers, whites, golds, dark greens, etc. Elegant and formal but still bright and airy) While keeping the tile, is there any way to stain it another color and do some kind of glossy seal? What color might keep that feel? What kind of products work best?
- I wouldn't bother doing it. You could get a sealer the seal the tile because I think I remember my dad saying Terra Cotta tiles are very porous. But I don't think that trying to put paint or changing its color would give you satisfactory results.
- Q: How is the acceptance of tiles after construction?
- Acceptance of several main parts: first within two meters of the error shall not be greater than 2mm, the joints should be neat, uniform size, no hollowing, not loose, with two meters long ruler or by the foot of acceptance. Second, you can use a small hammer in the ground or the walls of all the light tapping, no empty drums. Finally, pay attention to the drainage requirements of the floor tile slope should meet the drainage requirements, and ground leakage should be tightly integrated.
- Q: We currently have carpet throughout our house, but due to having dogs, we hate the carpet. While hardwood or laminate seems the logical choice, tile would hold up much better to their toe nails. My concern is how having tile throughout the entire house (even in the living room, computer room, bedrooms, etc) would look. I know it is done sometimes, but I just can't picture it in my mind. How do you feel about it? Would the tile (it would be very neutral in color) be okay through the entire house or should we go with laminate deal with the scratches when/if they happen?
- Well its totally up to you but in my experience tile in every room is cold and not very inviting. Also we made the mistake of ripping up the carpet in our house so we could refinish the hardwoods underneath...bad idea. The floors were ruined and unsalvageable and and we found out our foundation was not suitable for laying laminate or tiles because it was raised in the middle of the house and sloped towards the edges. So seeing as we didn't have the money to lay carpet (we were going to lay the tiles or laminate ourselves) we have had a bare floor for over a year. If you (like us) have dogs that shed. The hair will be a daily nuisance. Between our two dogs and two cats there is hair blowing around the house constantly...which is not good especially when it ends up in the kitchen where your food is. Also we didn't realize how much the dogs preferred the soft carpet but as soon as we got an area rug for under our dining table they sleep there or on their dog pillow all the time and hate being on the hard floors. If you do decide to do tile make sure your floors do not give. My parents found out the hard way. Last year we laid their tile in their kitchen...we told them the floor had some give and that if we went ahead the grout may break out...after re-grouting twice and getting ready to try (hopelessly) again they finally realized that we were right. A few rooms are not as bad as the whole house. Hope this helps. Oh and keep your dogs nails clipped and that will cut down on snagging....if when walking through the house on hard floors and you hear them clicking they need to be trimmed if possible.
- Q: Suppose you have three types of tile: red tiles, which are 1x1, bluetiles which are 1 x1, and green tiles which are 1 x 2. Let tn be the number of ways to lineup these tiles to form a 1 x n line. Such a conguration is called atiling of a 1 x n board. Determine (and justify) a recurrence relation for tn, and use yourrecurrence to compute t9.
- to build a line of length n, andd a green tile to the right of a line of length n-2 or add either a red or blue tile to the rihgt of a line of length n-1 f(n) = f(n-2) + 2f(n-1) f(0) = 1 (there is 1 way to make a line of length 0: use no tiles) f(1)=2 f(2) = 5 f(3) = 12 f(4) = 29 f(6) = 70 f*6( = 169 f(7) = 409 f(8) = 985 f(9) = 2379
- Q: how do i do the measuring and lay out on a 10 foot by 6 foot floor when laying the tiles diagonally?
- Find the largest open square in your floor. Strike a cross from corner to corner of this square to get a center point. You can lay out some tiles based on this center point to see how it ends up running toward the door opening (also a significant sight line) and the walls. You don't want slivers of tile cuts at the walls or door opening so you want to manage the center point around these areas. Allowing for larger grout joints can help you with this issue as well though larger grout joints just make for more sanitary issues in a bath floor.
- Q: What kind of ceramic tile?
- Polished tiles: polished tiles is polished after the polished polished brick. In contrast to the roughness of the whole body bricks, polished tiles will be more clean. The hardness of this brick is very high, very wearable. In the use of infiltration technology on the basis of polished tiles can make a variety of imitation stone, imitation wood effect. Classification can be divided into seepage type polished tiles, fine powder type polished tiles, multi-tube fabric polished tiles, microcrystalline stone. Scope In addition to the bathroom, kitchen, the rest of the majority of indoor space can be used. Features: quintana brick polished after polished tiles, the hardness of this brick is very high, very wearable. Tiles: tiles are made of quartz sand, mud in accordance with a certain percentage of firing, and then polished bright but do not need to polish, the surface as smooth as the glass mirror translucent, is the hardest of all the tiles. Tile in the water absorption, edge straightness, bending strength, acid and alkali resistance are better than ordinary glazed tiles, polished tiles and general marble. But the tiles are not perfect, it is the flaw after grinding, the pores exposed, dust, oil and other easy to penetrate. The classification is mainly floor tiles. Belong to a kind of polished tiles. Scope of application Tile for the living room, bedroom, walkway and so on.
- Q: Is there a site you know that would be helpful for this. I am going to be doingthe kitchen walls, no back splash from counter. Tile will start at counter go up to bottom of cabinets.I was thinking of using a regular tile then half way up putting a 6 inch strip of glass tile, they are smaller really add SPUNK! lol I need some pointers on doing it though. Or any tips you might have.THANKS!
- A very common decision to make when re-tiling is whether to tile over existing tile or remove the old tiles first. It is quite common to tile over existing tile, and should not be a problem, but there are a few points to bear in mind, or worth considering. If tiling over tile The existing tiles must be soundly bonded to the walls. Obviously, no matter how well fixed the new tiles are, if the old tiles de-bond from the wall and fall off, then so will the new ones. Make sure the old tiles are well fixed. One way to check is to gently tap them. If it sounds very hollow then they are likely not well bonded. Pay particular attention to wet areas which are more likely to have problems. The existing tiles need to be clean and free of grease or other contaminants which could affect the bond of the adhesive used for the new tiles. Some backgrounds such as plaster and plasterboard have a recommended weight limit for a square unit of measurement. That means that for instance plasterboard will have a maximum weight of tiles or stone you can fix to it, which if surpassed may cause a structural failure. This is unlikely to be a problem if both old and new tiles are smaller format, thinner tiles, but could be an issue if using large format, heavier tiles on top. It especially likely to be a problem with natural stone tiles which tend to be heavier due to their thickness. Only certain tile adhesives are suitable for tile on tile. Check manufacturers instructions .
- Q: I believe the tiles were made in Mexico. They are light beige in color. They were installed in the master bathroom which has a shower stall, no bathtub.
- Pretty much agree w/ Doc .. You wont hurt a thing w/ the seal part on the grout,it s not a cure all but it will help.. Get a Penetrating sealer and not a silicone sealer( which will wear off over time} A 2 coat minimum is the way to go.. GL
- Q: Can a ceramic wall tile be applied directly to a greenboard surface with mortar or is a cement backer board required? Thanks for your help
- Yes. I have tiled 10's of thousands of feet on green board. It's not my choice , but you know contractors go the cheapest way. Keep green board a 1/2 off the tub. It will last a lot longer.I also would not use adhesive it is messy and loses hold after a few years. I used plain OL' thinset. It holds great and is easy to wipe out of the joints. And don't let anyone tell you different. I set tile for 30 yrs.
