- I just made an end table and it is about 4 inches lower than the arms on my couch. The logic here is that it is a minimal amount of arm movement to reach into a bowl of pretzels or get a good grip on a beverage can which is setting on top of the table.

- I had the exact same problem, I called them up and they told me that is was catalog only. I think you will find this problem for most palces online. If you are looking for a cheap leather sofa or reclining sofa or even a sofa bed i tried www emishome .uk, they had the same sofa i wanted in the argos catalog plus i could see it in there birmingham showroom. Another great feature, if you need it fast they even delivered it the next day.

- It's my personal opinion that leather sofa's aren't as comfortable unless they are the extremely high end expensive type. Then there's a lot more work involved with caring for the leather. After using leather conditioners and soaps the item must be completely and meticulously rubbed and dried or you risk damaging or staining other fabrics that come in contact with the sofa. It's just too much work for me (I have lots of kids)- I prefer fabric that can be covered and steam cleaned.

- mrriskey007 Great idea. Most of the work is already done. Chop it so that you have the correct porportion back to seat. Move the back's legs to the position for the seat's rear legs. Consider adding a middle set of legs. Obtain a new spar that will run the sofa's length and it will be the seat's rear frame. Install, maybe, the middle leg to it. The back's connection to the seat's rear might be as simple as a 1/2 thick piece of plywood used as a gusset. Picture a 45 degree x 90 degree triangle with the short leg fastened to the seat rear and the long leg fastened to the back. Size the triangle for best strength. Adjust the 90 degree angle for the best back to seat angle. Glue and screw seat frame to gusset as well as the back. Gusset will also help to contain seat's cushions. Will need two of these, one for each end of the sofa (duh). Might consider one for the center for additional strength of the the back to seat (plus the middle leg if needed). Whalla -- done. Sofa arm rests at its ends are simple to add too. Select a piece of stock that will be the sofa's seat front leg extention as an upright for the front of the arm rest. Select stock for horizontal part of the arm. Consider using a gusset to connect those to pieces. Connect the arm to the rear of the sofa which is the back frame. - Q: Moving on sat, my room is going to be considerably smaller so i was thinking of just getting a futon instead of a smaller bed so i can have more room when im not sleeping. Looking for one that is comfy and looks good. (Comfort is the main concern but if it looks good too, thats a bonus.) Not looking to spend an arm and a leg, but i gotta do what i gotta do. Thanks
- Futons are great space savers but not really practical for every day use and the cushions never stay in place properly when you use it as a sofa. Plus they can be a bit low. If you can cut back on other stuff you want to buy then invest what you save in buying as good a sofa bed as you can. Much nicer to sit on and some can be folded away with the bedding in place so you don't need to find room to store the pillows and duvet.
- Q: My neighbor is moving this week and had offered me her sofa and end tables. She didn't say that she wanted any $ for it, and when I asked her she said Don't worry about it!. Should I still give her something for the sofa and tables? The sofa looks to be in good condition but there is a spot on the back edge where her cat had clawed and the dust cover underneath is torn, and it stinks like cat. - in answer to your first question, i would say no, you dont have to give her any money. they are moving and a) probably glad they dont have to pay the movers to move it or b) going to buy a new one when they move anyway. i would offer some help moving or packing or something instead of the cash. as for your second answer, we have been happy with Spot Shot for our dog stains. good luck, enjoy your new sofa ...

- It's not an IKEA sofa (though they have some slightly similar). It is just as likely a digital mockup of a non-existent sofa or a one-off made for a designer shoot out of cardboard and plastic. You could probably find something similar at the ultra-modern furnishings sites, but this sort of furniture is often just an invention for a photo shoot -- I have friends who work in advertising and in design staging and what they use is often just a rented prop from a studio supply house.

- That depends on the size, quality, upholstery, etc... A good quality American made carved wood sofa can run as high as $15,000. A mid-priced one could run between $2500-$4000 The cheapest molded resin sofa China would probably start in the $800 range. I'm a proponent of real wood, domestic construction, and 8-way hand-tied frames. They will cost more, but you will never replace them.
