- Q: Hi, I have a beautiful leather sofa and it's creamour two year old has discovered pens. The simple solution is 'hide' the pens, but with three older children in the house doing home work sometimes pens get left around.If she draws on the sofa.. is there anything that would bring it out without ruining the leather?Nicky
- This really depends on what type of leather it is. If it is on a pigmented leather then the first thing you should try is an ink stick. The fresher the ink the more chance you have of removing it. It is a good idea to have one in your house if you have a pale leather and children!!!! You should also be using a good quality leather protector on a pale suite. This will act like a 'scotchgard' and will make any more mishaps easier to clean off. If an ink stick doesn't work a solvent based remover will need to be used and it may also remove finish and pigment so is best left to the experts. Hairspray sometimes works but can also make the matter far worse as it can spread the ink over a bigger area. Nail varnish remover or any other solvents will remove the finish and pigment which will need replacing. Baby wipes are about the worst thing you can use on a leather sofa as they break down the finish and will eventually ruin your suite. If the ink is on an aniline style, there is nothing that will remove it because the ink will have re-dyed the leather. It may dissipate over time with cleaning and protecting.
- Q: How can I safely clean my cotton sofa?
- I don't know that you can satisfactorily. It is best to have a professional come in and clean it for you; the risk of getting the batting over-wet is too great and you won't know you did that for at least a month when the mould grows under and through it. Some places use a water-based cleaner and a vacuum type cleaner to clean sofas, but they know just how much to add to it to avoid over wetting it. You can freshen it up with things like Febreze, but actual cleaning should be left to professionals.
- Q: So last night, i moved the sofa to clean up under it like i regularly do. I was shocked, so much that I'm still speechless. The back was slashed from side to side, up and down. I bought this sofa a couple of months ago. My son said his guinea pig was stuck inside. I don't inderstand why he didn't tell me first instead of cutting up my sofa. I cried about it, i don't understand how he could do this. I 'm way too shocked. I have'nt punished him yet. I'm trying to understand. Thr sofa is a total loss, how do i teach him that this is not ok?
- I guess you should be releaved that he actually had a motive for doing what he did. He obviously needs to understand that he should have told you what was going on rather than try to handle it himself. I'd point out to him that because he did what he did you are now going to have to buy a new sofa. You might want to figure out how the guinea pig could have been removed without damaging the sofa, then point it out to him. Hopefully he'll understand that if he got you involved the result would have been much better. Like I implied earlier, at least you aren't dealing with a child that has some weird issues. I don't think you'll have the same problem again, but if you over react he'll probably be afraid when something comes up in the future that he should be telling you about because he'll be afraid of your reaction.
- Q: I sold my sofa on a social networking site and got quite alot of interest. .someone came round to view it and was happy to leave a deposit..they came round again yesterday to help take it apart and we helped to deliver it and put it back together at their place, the money was exchanged and I left. - Q: I want to sleep on a sofa daily now, but I can't find a good one that I can sleep on everyday and I know there are one out there. Can you suggest me a good sleeper sofa that I could sleep on everyday? Price is not in concern, I think, but a low price like 100-600 would be great. I don't have any back problems but I do have neck problems. Or should I go back to the traditional mattress bed?
