- Q:I'm thinking of replacing an old upholstered couch with a microfiber sofa. I have a teenager and a (non-shedding) dog and in the past I've had my furniture and rugs professionally steam cleaned as needed. Does anyone know if microfiber will hold up to a high-traffic household where the muddy-footed dog sneaks on the furniture? In your experience is washable microfiber really washable or will it look terrible the first time I clean it?
- I have a white microfiber sofa that cost $5,000. (yes white. yes $5,000). Also, two dogs and a cat. It's washable if you get a steam cleaner. The salespeople imply that you can just use a damp sponge to remove stains. This is no more or less true than any other fabric. They also tell you to not use a steam cleaner because it ruins the grain or something. All I can say is it ain't a miracle fabric. It gets dirty and then, over time, it gets really dirty, just like all furniture, and it needs to be cleaned. Given the cost I lived in hell with my couch for several years. My husband purchased it and I was on pins and needles just sitting on the darn thing. Well, the dog ate some bacon grease and I came home from work to bacon vomit all over the couch. Called a professional a few days later and he said it was too late, I should have called him immediately. That's when I just steamed it myself and it's perfectly fine and I don't worry about it anymore. Also, I have micro fiber footstools and I take the covers off and throw them in the wash. No problem. However, it's been five years and it all looks a little worn because it is worn. Don't pay more because you think it's indestructible. Buy it because it looks nice or you like the way it feels. In the end, it's just another fabric.

- Q:I was just removing some nail polish off my nails when I was sitting on the sofa (in the dark), and I decided that I needed to get a new cotton pad and put some nail polish remover (NPR from now on). Well, the nozzle part of the NPR bottle (the part that stops a whole load of it coming out) came off and got stuck in the lid and I didn't notice. Well, I went to pour it onto the cotton pad, and a WHOLE LOAD of it came out onto the sofa. Now there's a really strong smell coming from it, and my mum is practically crying (I don't know why, shes a bloody drama queen and the smell bothers her) and she's yelling at me. We can't afford to replace the sofa, so can anyone please please please tell me how to get rid of the smell (quickly)????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
- Get soap and stuff that makes things smell better like Lysol and scrub the soap on the sofa and spray Lysol or any product that makes things smell better and get a cotton ball and rub it on the place with the nail polish remover and pour water on it and wait for it to dry after you do that repeat what you did again and it will be better ( Trust me this happened to me to!)

They unzip so I can machine wash them, but I don't know the settings, or if I need to use some kind of special gentle soap. Also, can I use the spray stain remover beforehand? - Q:So healthy urine Track infection free cats.. who gets love attention, food water, 2 private litter boxes one self cleaning one standard. I have 4 cats, all spayed. I don't know what's wrong.. they don't pee anywhere but my living room mainly on my sofa when it's covered with plastic or fabric... otherwise under it or in the opposite corner. I don't know what's going on with them.. it's been months.. of a nearly daily occurance. Every morning and night they get cuddled and played with (they are only alone a few hours out of the day and that's not nessecarily when they pee.) don't know what else it can be. Any ideas would be great. I read stuff about Prozatc and l- lysin for cats.. Is this crazy? I love my cats but I can not live in thier little box.
- They are probably peeing on it still because it smells like their urine. Cats will generally go in the same spot. Try moving the sofa to another room for a while and completely cleaning it. Keep the door closed so the cats cannot get near it. Clean the floor really well also. Cat urine is really, really hard to get out, so you'll have to really steam clean it. Then put their litter boxes where the couch was. You might even try putting a rag that you've wiped up their urine with in the litter so they smell it. Good luck. When we bought our house, there was a corner in one of the bedrooms where a cat had peed, and we didn't know it until after we bought the place, because the previous owners had it covered and air freshners in there. We had to replace the carpet and actually bleach the wood under it to get rid of the smell.
